Have you noticed that Process Hacker has been updated about 3 times in the past few weeks? I wonder why.

Any way, the latest version is Process Hacker 2.2 (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Process-Hacker/1232669254/1) dated 9 Aug 2010 at File Forum. Or get it from its home page HERE (http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/).

PH is a task manager -- much more powerful than Window's own Task Manager. It requires no installation. Just unzip it to a folder & run it.

One of PH's features is its "Terminator". If you want to kill a process and all else fails, PH can and WILL kill the bugger. It has a whole laundry list of killer techniques, as shown in the screenie below . . .

Some of PH's related capabilities...
+ Powerful control over all processes, even processes protected by rootkits or security software. PH's kernel-mode driver has unique abilities which allow it to terminate, suspend and resume a wide spectrum of processes and threads, including software like IceSword, Avast!, AVG, COMODO Internet Security, etc.

+ Able to find & terminate many types of hidden processes, including processes hidden by simple rootkits such as Hacker Defender and FU.

Looks like the best for its kind of tasks. But I would prefer to never need to use it.

On this new laptop, only Windows Live Messenger acted buggy so far. It stopped to respond frequently and automatically restarted itself every time I tried to close it. A reinstallation of the whole Live suite fixed the issue permanently.

I never used it: it's stand alone ?

It doesn't require installation but apparently it needs a bit of tweaking to be 100% standalone. http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1934

(Note, I did not verify that it runs 100% "portable". Only listing this as info...)

No go with an exe killing rogue active.

Renamed to firefox then it starts and can kill the rogue.

The old Icesword is about the only security app that will start without a rename but only for XP which is a shame.

It is for me. I just unzipped to a folder. It's self-contained therein. No registry or other changes.

I still prefer Process Explorer (PE) as my main task manager but use Process Hacker (PH) when I want to deal with services or have to tame a problem process . . .
+PE is great for monitoring processes. :thumb:
+ PH is great for managing processes & services. :thumb:

I've been using ProcessHacker for over a year now,and 1 of it's greatest features(for me,anyway ;)),is that it can delete services......sometimes,uninstallers "forget" to remove their associated service, leaving orphaned clutter behind.....

A simple cmd prompt with sc delete service name will also delete it without extra software.

I use Process Hacker for my main task manager, but it says the latest version via the auto update feature is v1.11

Point and click is easier for some of us than using a "simple" command prompt....;D

So, will any of these "Process Whatevers" open when the old XP desktop freezes and won't open Task Manager? If so how do you use them? My experience (perhaps I don't know how to use them) is when the ole girl is locked up she is locked up and a hard boot is the only thing that works! Thank You!

Yes, I use this program. You can change affinity and it will remember it.
