-{ Quote: "already 3.04 and no win 7 X64 support :(" }-

There will be no x64 support, not untill Microsoft changes or abolishes its Patchguard. Ilya doesn't do half-baked solutions, and currently its impossible to implement the same level of protection under x64 as under x32.

This has to be one of the most commonly asked questions.

Although "lifetime", Ilya always recommends to keep the program updated. So in that case DW is not strictly a true one-off lifetime license such as SandBoxie. Further, do not forget that, at the present time, if you upgrade your OS to 64-bit you have lost your license; so again not lifetime :-X

However, the extension/prolongation fee is relatively peanuts so well worth the bucks.

Mr.PC
August 30th, 2010, 01:42 PM
Frankly, I don't care that much about DefenseWall
email notifications and first-queue support after year 1.

SandboxieRepeated Registration is something I couldn't stand.
I am among the users who ditched Sandboxie and went to DefenseWall.

DefenseWall is much lighter on my Browser,
and it offers Features (e.g. HIPS, Inbound & Outbound Firewall etc.)
Sandboxie lacked.

But you will care about the updates! :P

I am a licensed user of Defensewall so I am familiar with its strengths. My main point is that most users will not stay with the "lifetime" license by itself- it needs regular upgrading.

Ilya always recommends (http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100520) upgrading to the newest version for better protection and in this way he also has a constant monetary input stream.

Ilya Rabinovich
August 30th, 2010, 05:31 PM
Also, it's a good motivation to constantly improve DefenseWall for all the users- newcomers and registered ones.

I loaded my old DW 2.56 after getting rid of AVG IS. Beautiful, fast, no problems.

Then, it asked if I wanted to upgrade to this 3.08. I had bad experiences with v3, but decided to upgrade and see.

No hangs on bootup this time. But, restarting the computer takes fully 3x longer.

I restarted again and it was a full minute and a half before everything finished. Once loaded, there is no slowdown at all. Using the latest Chrome, very fast and no problems.

I tried a 3rd restart, figuring that maybe it just took a few to settle down or something. DW, on this computer, Dell Inspiron 1525, Win Vista HP sp2 with 2G RAM is just very slow on boot. I'll keep with it for a few days, but may end up dropping back to 2.56, which lets the computer boot at normal speed.

Try contacting Ilya the developer. Could be a conflict with another program (that uses kernel hooks).

Looks like a conflict with other program. You definitely have to send me an e-mail to the support address.

Chuck57
October 14th, 2010, 01:53 PM
Problem solved, although I'm puzzled as to what the conflict could be. I got rid of one Dell program - Support, since I'm out of warranty now. Rebooted and that changed nothing. Still took a 90 seconds to boot from the login screen to finish.

Dell Inspiron 1525, Win Vista HP sp2, 2G RAM.

I rebooted again and watched which icons in the toolbar loaded. ShadowDefender v.278 was one of the last. I removed SD, rebooted once more, and from login to finish, 25 seconds.

I thought maybe I'd misread my watch, so rebooted one more time. Once again, from login password to finished booting, approximately 25 seconds.

ShadowDefender was not running running. I hadn't used it in a couple of weeks in fact. But in two reboots, after removing SD, my boot time speeded up 75%.

@Ilya Rabinovich:

Thanks for 3.08 update.
In tray, DW icon --> Right click --> About shows 3.08 version, but in "C:\Program Files\DefenseWall", it shows 3.0.7.0. Is it normal/OK?

Back having a look a DW after some time away. Still kicks malware in the butt!

I can't say I noticed before the huge amount of 'I/O bytes other' it seems to use - over 100,000,000 in just under an hour of messing about. Even with no untrusted apps runiing it seems to continually rise at an alarming rate.

I/O read and write are low as is memory and CPU utilisation but what is the application doing to generate the 'other' bytes activity? I can't say I've ever noticed an app as hungry in that particular measure.

Anyone confirm on their set-up or can offer an explanation? Are there potential downsides of that much activity for that measure? Vista 32 Home Premium with only Avast free also running if that helps.

Thanks

Boyfriend
November 9th, 2010, 08:26 AM
I/O Other = The number of input/output operations generated by the process that are neither a read nor a write, including file, network, and device I/Os. An example of this type of operation is a control function. I/O Other operations directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren't counted.

Thanks, I sort of knew what it was just a little concerned its that high and the potential issues that might cause.

Could it be DW checking the running processes against its untrusted list?

Software is made up of different components. Each component needs to communicate with each other. These communications are I/O other. It does not bring any instability/issue.

That IO input is about driver-application communication.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I now understand what's happening but not sure why it is constantly high. Anyway, its a great app and other I/O measures are low so balances out I suppose.

I just installed DefenseWall Personal Firewall in a virtual machine along side a few security apps, and among them AVG AV Free 2011 and upon reboot, AVG license simply died, literally.

I must add that AVG and other apps, have been already installed for weeks, and clean snapshots; so, not a corrupted AVG installation.

Ilya see if you can reproduce it.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. You'll have to wait, because I need finishing some other stuff with the virtual machine.

No you don't have to (you should not) change status from untrusted to trusted for internet facing application.
Check Firewall tab in Defensewall and make sure there is listed Opera browser and there is selected option "Allow untrusted".
