If you mean how to change your search engine next to your address bar, it's easy.........
right click at the top of your screen by your search bar/customize/appearance/buttons/search/now right click on any search engine listed/insert personal/edit/search/add. then just type in name/address and keyword. done. see easy. ;D

Why, because scroogle gets you EXACTLY the same results as using google, due to the fact they pull the results directly from google and pass them on to you. Other search engines don't do this.
Also using the HTTPS version makes your searches 100% anonymous to your ISP.

CloneRanger is right.
By the way, if you're gloing to use IXQuick/Startpage (same company) they also have SSL-protected searches. Remember to add the 's' at the end of the http addresses that were given in this thread. The protection from prying eyes is as important as the search itself.

The 's' you're referring to is this:
cat=web&cmd=process_search&language=english&ff=&query=%s
?

I detest Google's new sidebar and distrust them as to privacy etc. Therefore I have just done a lot of research to find a replacement for Google. This thread has been useful in doing that research. Thanks to all who participated.
The best one I have found is a metasearch engine named Clusty (http://clusty.com/). It is fast. Has VERY few paid ads or other distractions. Has good relevance in its search results. Provides a click spot by each site-hit so you can pull down a thumbnail of what is at that site.
Its name "Clusty" is based on the fact that, over & above its main search results, it additionally provides "clusters" that enable you to quickly find nuances about your search. For example, if you search "HIPS" it gives a cluster for physical hips of the human body, and another cluster for HIPS as security software, and another cluster for hip hop (the dance), and so forth.
Clusty can easily be added to the pull-down menus for Firefox, Opera, IntExp, Seamonkey, & Safari by going HERE (http://clusty.com/toolbars).

Very nice service, indeed.
I just have been having on issue with it, using their proxy service. For example, if I try to login, say, to wilderssecurity forum, won't login, because nothing happens if I press the button to login or press enter.
Expected behavior?
The search range also isn't that expansive as it could be. Maybe over time will increase.

That's true. At first, I haven't seen it, but after searching a bit to find out why it was happening, I came across that information. I've been at the page previously, though. No wonder I missed that part; I haven't slept much these last couple days, and the italic words were blurs to my vision. :o

Please give example + How to use with Opera search bar ... See Below ;)
Add You Own Search Engine To Opera
-{ Quote: "Opera has a default list of search engines ready to use.
But you can also add a search engine that you prefer and give it a search keyword so you can use it easily in the address field.
To add a new search engine:
1) Display the search engine website.
2) In the search field for that search engine, right-click or focus the cursor.
4) Select “Create search”.
5) Type a unique keyword for this search engine and select “OK”.
Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Preferences > Search, select the Add button and fill in the details of the search engine." }-
