As posted on another site, the installer for 1.46 is acting funny. Several different issues going on. In my case, on XP, 1.46 installs twice before acting normal...

In my case, Windows 7 x64, it cannot be started ("run-time error 383").

Oddities which I guess have been mentioned at their official forums? ???

It took two reboots with a BSOD sandwiched in between before v1.46 was right for me.

We apologize for the issue with the double installation. Only users that manually check for updates are affected and the issue with the Spanish translation has been resolved as well. You can download the absolute latest version (direct download) from the link below.

As for the BSOD -- can you please private message me the minidump files so that I can send them for analysis. That should NOT be happening.

Thank you; here is the information from the minidump.

ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0x80000003 - {EXCEPTION} Breakpoint A breakpoint has been reached.

Caused by vsdatant.sys.

Which appears to be part of ZoneAlarm. I would suggest sending it to their team for analysis!

Best regards,

Marcin

It happened while trying to update your program, on a machine that is not throwing out any BSODs, so...

While I agree with your statement, the crash happened with ZoneAlarm -- meaning they will NEED that minidump file to analyze the issue at hand. I've asked our development team to look into the issue but previous testing with ZoneAlarm showed no incompatibilities.

I updated from within v1.45 and got the message that says,
"The latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has been downloaded. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now close and install the latest version."
I clicked OK and rebooted.
On restart, there was a 2nd identical message from MBAM that said the same thing... "The latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has been downloaded. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now close and install the latest version."
I clicked OK
and got the blue screen of death.
Note: I am not 100% sure that the MBAM message said what I posted above, but both were MBAM messages on my desktop that I clicked OK on.

Why did you rebooted ?

For me it was like this ....after update there was "The latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has been downloaded. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now close and install the latest version." message , after OK button I started again MBAM and same message appeared.
That was weird , but when started for the third time everything is normal, no BSOD's either.

However, I did experience the two reboots process on my WinXP SP3 laptop - minus the BSODs (paid version MBAM - without protection module enabled).

You shouldn't be as long as it doesn't affect your system. All the different system configurations makes it all messy, but you can only concentrate on your own cause there's nothing else to do.

I agree with raven211... you shouldn't be. Plus, unless I'm mistaken, I am the only one on this thread reporting a BSOD, and Marcin claims that was ZoneAlarm's fault. Proceed with confidence. MBAM is a quality program! :)

I confirm the issues with the installation ( it seems it repeats the installation twice ).

I'm sure they have tested the installer, but still they have decided to release it that way. It's strange. I don't know if it's a technical issue ( a need to run the installer twice ) or just a bug. I did not like the whole thing..I expect companies that create software that is made for "difficult" tasks to be able to test and provide the simple things...like an installer...without issues. In any case this weird installer is harmless so I think everything is fine.

Just to clear up about incremental updates:

These are a pain to implement because it requires many different changes, both application AND server side. We have been working on incremental updates for several months now and are slowly nearing the end. Our database is still significantly smaller than most anti-virus and anti-malware databases because of heuristics instead of actual fingerprints and great compression techniques provided by zlib.

Of course we appreciate your efforts, and we trust your word that it'll be released once ready, but it doesn't really help that the download is smaller when it's several MBs of download in size, does it? ::) :)

It seems to me that the MBAM folks are experts when it comes to dealing with malware, but are of lesser skill when it comes to the basics of programming.

When MBAM updated to 1.46 I had 2 restarts, then my computer said I didn't have necessary permissions to access something or other at location something or other & locked up. Then the THIRD reboot was okay. Thanks MBAM for a very stressful PITA.

Good grief, don't they test this crap out before foisting it on their paying customers? >:( :thumbd: :thumbd: :thumbd:

foist:

1 a : to introduce or insert surreptitiously or without warrant b : to force another to accept especially by stealth or deceit
2 : to pass off as genuine or worthy <foist costly and valueless products on the public

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/foist

I don't recall MBAM being downloaded by stealth or deceit, nor being forced on me.

Those who willingly choose to download new versions of any software ASAP have to accept the possibility of undetected bugs, which is why I generally wait for a few days of "public beta" testing. It's not as if, by so waiting, I were being left with an obsolete old version that was no longer protecting me.

@bellgamin
you had/have enough time (imo 20 and 30 days) for testing both out.
if you buy a licence when not satisfied please dont bother us afterwards.
if you feel upset write it direct to vendor - not us.
your latest accusing is off any facts.
and i have doubt you above the skill of the mbam programmers...

if you have problems you should walk the helpful way as provided
for any software - write down your facts and more to reproduce
the problem.

incrementell updates - i didnt see it these minutes - was a full
update (4.5megs). and i assume that feature is only upcoming - not ready!

the whole mbam is smaller than all competitors - so mbam is my first
choice when a second (in general i see other av-programs used) opinion
is needed. its fast and reliable.

All the good work that this company does, and when there’s an little hiccup, the people who wouldn’t even show gratitude is more than quick enough to slander.

I experienced the same anomaly when upgrading from MBAM 1.45 to 1.46, so it closed and I had to manually re-start it, then she re-installs 1.46 again. Executing it for the third time worked like a charm, no harm done, or they just wouldn’t of have released the new version through updates. And version 1.46 addresses this anomaly, so there’s no waiting around for several releases down the road before it’s finally resolved.

Shesh, an hiccup! don’t want problems, don’t be using an computer.

Much more than 20-30 days. I bought a "lifetime" MD license in June 2008. I bought an MBAM license 4 months ago.

I purchased MBAM solely to support the company because I only rarely use it, and strictly as on-demand. I never keep using the free version of a program if a non-free version is available.

-{ Quote: "if you feel upset write it direct to vendor - not us." }-
You are not in charge of these forums. If you want those problems kept secret, that's just too bad.

I experienced these problems today. Prior posts in this thread, & in MBAM's own forum, show that the same or similar problems were being experienced by other users since yesterday or even earlier. Once those problems manifested themselves, the update should have been withdrawn until the update was fixed.

-{ Quote: "the whole mbam is smaller than all competitors" }-
It doesn't take a big company to suspend an update that is causing problems.

Hi Sir,

Why you keep bashing all the products? I always saw your comments, some are useful but many of them are full of hatred and off-topic. Its good that you analyze each and every product too deeply, but keep in mind that no one is 100% perfect. They can't be 100% perfect all the time...

I guess you are taking each and everything personally. Its good that you purchased MBAM solely to support the company, but you are not the one who have done so. There are so many users like you who do that but still they keep their words inside them. They don't tell every body that hey i have purchased this and that just for the sake of the company. Common Sir, don't show this to everybody...

And i am 101% agree with Brummelchen that if you have problems you should talk to the respective vendor and should write down your facts...?

Mods, if you think my comments are off topic and personal then you guys can remove this. Sorry for all this !!

Warm Regards

Sometimes it's just a background or language difference. Some people like to share their thoughts with others, saves others thinking the same thing and typing. Hence the reason for a forum.

Others encounter a problem and like to see it solved directly.

I prefer a bit of both.

If you read bellgamin's thoughts on programs as a whole, and not just the wilders' community, you'll see he has a lot of positives to say. He spends time writing his favorable thoughts. Nowhere as grumpy as the image next to his name looks! ;)

I think you don't understand how basic and important is a software to have a consolidated and bug free installer and updater. If you see a software that has these type of problems then it's obvious that in the past they had given less attention to specific parts of the development process, in favor of other features and functions. All software have bugs and yes there is nothing new or strange, but most of the software are not really those pieces of art we'd like to believe.

I'm against this really. I can contact the vendor, talk about it with friends at home, in forums...do whatever I like. If something is not against the forum rules and it is related to the issues discussed in the forum...well, it's obvious...we can talk about it.

I have nothing against MBAM, I like it and I always suggest it, but this does not mean I cannot judge it.

much personal notes in it - not in the smooth way more the black&white.
they made an error - and due to that now they are the bad - ever.

I'm running MBAM 1.46 Pro now in WinXP SP3. I'm running without the protection module enabled.

Has anyone else noticed that clicking on "scheduler" will turn on the protection module? I can then "exit" MBAM from the system tray and protection module will then stay off as originally set and intended.

This is more an annoyance than major problem for me but I'm not sure this is rational behavior for MBAM and is different from 1.45 version.

I guess I can check MBAM forum and see if any discussion there.
