View Full Version : SafeOnline fails to install properly

The first thing I did when I downloaded Prevx SafeOnline from www.prevx.com/facebook was to try it out in my Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual machine. It went off without a hitch and properly integrated into both IE8 and Chrome 5.0.375.23. I liked how it worked, and decided to install it on my host machine (Win 7 Pro x64) and that's when the problems hit.
The installer seemed to initially work, and the initial scan started, but was taking a lot longer than normal. It eventually ended, the browser icon also failed to show up in IE8, Firefox (3.7a3)(default browser) and Opera (10.52). The tray icon says "Prevx v3.0.5.130 is Disabled" and double clicking it shows an ongoing scan, were nothing is being scanned. The scanned file count stays at 0 and same with scan progress. I try canceling the scan, but it doesn't even cancel. One thing to note is that I have Avira Premium Security Suite 10.0.0.542 installed, with just the guard process running. I try restarting and disabling Avira's guard, and the system scan which happens during initial installation goes off again... and everything follows is the same as before the restart.
Any help in getting SOL installed properly would be appreciated.

Hi jrocks84 and welcome to the Official Prevx Support Forums!
The first thing to do is uninstall PSO via Add/Remove reboot and install again see see if that helps? And make sure any other security that you have is disabled and make sure you reinstall via Administrator account! Here is a direct download link! http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=PREVXFACEBOOK

Hello jrocks84,
In addition to what Triple Helix has said, could you try downloading Prevx directly from http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=prevxcsi64
This version won't have the full Facebook functionality enabled but the link is a direct download to at least get you started properly and we can provide a Facebook license after you have a full installation.
Please let me know if the problems persist and I'll investigate further! :)

Unfortunately, an uninstall through Add/Remove Programs, reboot and then reinstall (all with other security programs disabled) results in the same occurrences as before. Then when that failed, I went about doing it with this uninstaller from the Prevx website: http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=csiuninstalltool. As for the Admin account, I have a bad habit of running in one all the time, so it was installed with one both times.
Edit: Started writing before PrevxHelp posted, so missed what he said. I'll follow that advice now.

It installed successfully this time, but I'm running into a problem of a different sort now. SafeOnline appears to be working in Opera 10.52, but it doesn't show it's icon unless you're using the Windows Native Skin.
The initial scan this time actually worked, but came up with a false positive I'm not sure if flagging it on my computer tells you about it, but if you want, I could send it to you.

For the Opera problem the Tab is above the window so make the window smaller open the tab and you can drag the Tab Window to where you want it, I helped someone else with this issue here before: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=270572 Also send a scan log as stated in this post to fix your possible FP: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=245129

Thank you for all your help, TH and PrevxHelp.
I have everything working fine now, and getting the full Facebook license now would make everything perfect. :)
