Hey I ma using Phantoms ruleset adn would like to know
1. do I need special rules to use bittorrent
2. How would they look like??

I'm sure phant0m can help you with that. There was a set of rules for Bittorrent to make sure it works without fuss.

Phant0m decided to drop LnS support and focus on other issues that have his interest right now. He might drop by over here on ocassion at the most.

While programs like this may function to some degree with just outbound rules, full functionality usually requires allowing inbound connections as well.

You might want to check, I think the default port range for the latest version is 6881-6999 (the port range used is configurable).
Do your rules allow for inbound connections?
Your logs should indicate what is being blocked and from that you should be able to determine what rule(s) you will need.

BitTorrent Default ports to authorize Initiating Connections from remote machines are 6881-6889, I’d suggest authorizing Initiating Connections from remote machines via 6881-6881tcp ports.

This my rules for bittorent , my favorites bittorrent client is g3torrent ;)
I only just open two ports tcp 10002-10003 and it's works very well ;)

about BitTorrent and Azureus, I guess this link might be useful to you...
if you see LnS complaining about UDP packets sent to 239.255.255.250...here's the reason:
