View Full Version : Email Client Not Found

I have decided to replace my current AV (AVG-Free) and I am giving NOD32 a try. Upon installation I received an error message (see attached). I receive this same error message whenever I try to run the NOD32 scanner. It asks me to run Microsoft Outlook and assign it as my default email client. I am currently running Outlook Express 6, and I have that app set as my email client (see attached).
1. Does this mean my email attachments are not being scanned?
2. Can anyone tell me how to fix whatever problem I have?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dazed_and_Confused :)
This may be a shot in the dark but click on your Nod desktop icon go to the Setup option and see if u have use MAPl interface checked. If not check it and see if that fixes the problem.
Hope this helps.

Snowbound,
That did it! Thanks a bunch! :D
Apparently I have to DISABLE using MAPI interface. I hope that doesn't mean my e-mail messages are not getting scanned...

Just send yourself a test email and see if NOD signature is at the bottom or open your Control Center, click on Imon and look and see if if any emails have been scanned.

Hi, Dazed_and_Confused
If you have XP you can chose which E-mail App you like.

TQ and Snowbound,
Thanks. Email is apparently getting scanned. I'm not sure what checking that little IMAP box does, but as long as it's working...

It's Outlook that displays that error message, not NOD32. If you have Outlook installed (not the same as Outlook Express), NOD32 will try to scan it using the MAPI interface. When NOD32 does that, it uses some Outlook functions, and when Outlook notices that it isn't the default e-mail client, it displays that warning.
If you aren't using Outlook, why do you have it installed? :P
Most e-mail traffic is transfered to clients via POP3, so as long as you have IMON running, that e-mail will be scanned.
Best regards,
Anders

Anders,
When I installed Office, Outlook automatically came along. I guess I should not have used the "standard" installation. I use it at work, but prefer OE at home.
