Hello, I am using the trial version of NOD32 on windows Vista 64 bit. and I am wondering how often the databases actually update because the last time I did an update check there were three database releases and at that time the latest was from yesterday. I was able to get it updated manually but I am just wondering why it isn't doing it automatically.

from my experience it auto updates 2-3 times a day, but it might just have been inbetween update check intervals that they had an update ready, so wen u manually checked, it was there to download, but it wuldve been downloaded automatically at the next interval

hmm ok that is what I was wondering. because two updates had been released prior to the 5011 update and it wasn't even touched. where as I think a couple of days ago I had no problem in in the automatic updates as it got them when they came out. I don't know if it is because it is a trial version that they aren't coming right away or what but the intervals are a little worrysome to say the least. also I was wondering when do the program modules update?

Also the Trial version is not on the priority list to get updated first, the paid version always gets updates first as far as I know! An ESET Mod can confirm!

that is what I wondered is there also any way of knowing when the databases came out?

Typically, the virus signature database updates from one to four times daily.
You scheduler should poll for updates every sixty minutes, this is a default setting. Check your scheduler settings, if they are incorrect they should be adjusted to suit this criteria.

I already answered this Question we need a ESET MOD to confirm that the Trial version is not on the priority list to get updated first! :isay: :isay:

Have things change since your first post? If not wait for an ESET MOD to answer your query!

All the Best with your Trial and hope you upgrade to the full version!

So things are updating fine now and regularly? I've used NOD32 for more than 7 years and always will! But never the Trial version so I'm curious!

yeah I was surprised earlier to find that 5009,5010 and 5011 were released. and my last signature database that files were scanned on was 5008. didn't know until I checked the database even that those 3 had been released:s

I do know that on the trial version the components aren't updated just the signatures.

True as there was a new Version out today I'm not sure if the Trial is updated yet to download? Again another Question for the ESET MODS!

I'm off to bed nice talking to you and hope they answer your Questions soon! :thumb:

2010-04-09 16:02 Update 5013 (20100409)

ir isn't I updated manually the first time around and that worked fine because I just had a restart. now that 513 has been issued, I click on update and it says update not needed signatures are current. which is the same message I was getting yesterday with the three updates even though they were already released. now here is the funny thing. if I restart the computer, the update will go through fine.

Okay I finally got it to update manually. so it is now on 5013

List the security programs you use or have used in the past.

Something is interfering with the updates.

things I have used before include malwarebytes(long ago uninstalled)
Spybot Search and destroy(long ago uninstalled)
Kaspersky Internet security

not that I know of in particular. I had it set from the 60 minutes to 30 for a while and no updates were coming in unless it was done manually. then set it to 15 and was still having that problem for a while. the only thing I can figure is it must be something with either the servers or the updates themselves because when there are several at a time.. it seems to have a hard time keeping up. the only other thing I changed in the scan settings was to do an update if it had been an hour after it had been taken care of. but anyway seems to be working ... for now anyway.

Hello,

By default, ESET's software checks hourly for updates. While updates can be requested for higher frequencies, the engine itself will only check once an hour.

Beginning with v3.0, ESET made architectural and infrastructure changes to how updates are downloaded, and at what priority, and trial versions of the software will typically download updates with the same frequency and at the same priority as licensed versions. The exceptions to this are at times of heavy downloading of signatures, such as when a base signature update occurs, and the software downloads the threat signature database in toto or during a major version update, such as when v3 or v4 were released. The architectural changes to the software make base signature updates much rarer; I think two have occurred in the past two years.

A year or so ago, ESET released 2.9 threat signature updates/day, on average. That figure is out of date, though, and I suspect it has trended upwards in the past year. Module updates are sometimes released in conjunction with signature updates, to fix bugs, improve the performance or sometimes add small enhancements to the various software components.

Aryeh Goretsky

I have just bought the full version along with eset smart security the smart security for another computer that I am in the process of building. one thing I am wondering is only the username and password needs to be updated for that right? since I don't have a serial key just the username and password.

Did you buy a 2 computer license? If so then it's the same username and password for both! If separate then you should have 2 usernames and passwords! Maybe you could be more clear? Did you buy 1 ESET Antivirus and 1 Eset Smart Security?

At the same time? Did you get 2 Usernames and Passwords or just 1? The reason I ask is EAV is cheaper than ESS and I hope you didn't pay to much! Check the emails carefully from ESET!

one question I do have is does eset operate like AVG does when it comes to program updates and update them automaticaly or do you have to download the latest file and apply it? case in point. if you have NOD32 4.2.375 release. will it update to the latest version? or do you have to manually download the 420 file?

This has been discussed here (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=244619) for instance.

Upgrade to v. 4.2 for existing v. 4.0 users will be rolled out when we are sure there are no issues to fix in 4.2. Currently there are certain issues with the new build reported on Windows 7 or Vista that allegedly emerged in the release version and which are being currently investigated.
