Hey guys want some opinions.... I'm going shopping this after noon and probably going to get whats listed below

- Corsair TWINX Dual Channel 1024MB PC4400 DDR 550MHz
- PNY Verto GeForce FX 5950 Ultra Video Card / 256MB / AGP 8X / VIVO & DVI

sigh.... it would be good if I added a fan

What do you think ? Is this a good combo or am I way off track ?

Assuming that you haven't already pulled the trigger on these parts, it looks like you're setting yourself to be able to kick a** and take names at the next GameCon!

What hard drives, though, and why PNY for the graphics card?

HD are in scsi raid 2 160GB

has for the video card I was looking at SPECS and Price


Exemple : Now a video card nvidia type was 249$ the other one the PNY 100$ ( note in CAD )

I checked the specs, they have the samething all around benchmark also... why go for 249$ when the 100$ does the samething ?

But hey look at www.tigerdirect.ca ( that's where I'm getting my stuff ) anyhow.

If you have something better to suggest has a video card let me know. I'm going for the BEST card at the cheapest price.

Unfortunately, FluxGFX, the link you provided to TigerDirect didn't work - at least for me - so I couldn't perform a quick check of the site to verify what you're getting for your $100 graphics card. When there's that much of a price difference on a top-end piece of new hardware, make absolutely certain of what you're ordering/getting. Double- and triple-check if necessary, and I especially recommend talking to someone in customer service before placing that particular part of the order.

If you've already placed the order with TigerDirect, then this is all academic. However, the last time I went shopping for hardware online, they (TD) did not come up as a result in any of the shopping sites I tried, at least as long as I factored-in price. You might wish to look around a bit more.

As far as PNY goes ... well, let's just say that I've experienced warranty and service issues with them in the past and leave it at that.

Has for the Video Card I've been looking at 15models and this is the one that place above them in the price range of 100$ card.

Now I'm dangling between

Radeon 9800 and a GF4 Ti 4600
According to Tom's Hardware these would be the best cards out there for their valued price.

Okay: an FX5200 for $100 makes more sense than the FX5950 that you had in your original post, and $100 is approximately what you can get these for at most retailers.

If you pay more than that $100 for a Ti4600, you've been robbed! It is older technology, and is not fully DX9 compatible; to get full DX9 compatibility in an Nvidia-based card requires the 'FX' prefix, and the FX5200 Ultra seems to be the sweet spot in the 'bang for the buck' category. As for the XFX brand, I can't offer any information.

If you choose to go with an ATI-branded card, and can get a Radeon9800 for the price you quoted, I'd jump all over it.

But what do I know? I'm not a gamer, and I'm running a Savage4 (!) on this decrepit hulk! I've built a couple of gamers though and, if price versus performance is a concern, I'd pick up the FX5200 (of any variety). I don't think you'll be disappointed. ;)

Benchmarked in everyway the GF4 Ti4600 is the best for price cost, performance and graphic effecient

FX5200 is around 390$ and can be found a certain retailers for 189$ CAD

Hi FluxGFX, Have you looked at AMD's 64bit options - Opeteron?
Thay pack more punch than any pentium & there is free download of XP64bit Windows available, which from reading many reviews is a real solid OS and will run 64 bit apps when they appear + all your 32 bit apps.

Hey Pilli,

I have an opteron system running here at work, it's my main station.
Quite frankly the performance lacks.

a P4 2.8ghz Duel Channel DDR PC3200 512mb will run over it.
I have the 64bit version of windows. Quite frankly reminds me of the old days of the Blue Screen of death.

sigh... has for running 32bit application ( forget about it some of the apps can't run or you get process errors... )

I'm not going to touch a 64bit version of windows.

I'm building a new PC for Gaming, Graphic, 3D rendering, 3D animation with softimage.

I'm not putting the VideoCard in factor has i've alread purchased that yesterday.
