DialogueScience, Inc. announces the beta-release of SpIDer Mail - a unique and universal mail anti-virus protection tool! The SpIDer Mail program runs under Windows 9x and Windows NT/2000/XP operating systems and is designed for anti-virus protection of any mail client using POP3 protocol for mail receiving. There are two variants of SpIDer Mail available now: for home users ( Home Edition) and for servers ( Server Edition). The Server Edition of SpIDer Mail works as anti-virus POP3 proxy-server. The current beta-version of SpIDer Mail is now available for evaluation and testing for all interested users and requires installation of Doctor Web Antivirus v4.28.

I found SpIDer Beta very buggy on Windows ME+Outlook Express. I had to uninstalled it. Outlook didn't load once and mail was much slower than before.
I'll give it another try in the next update. Thanks for the post.

Hi Tim,
It's a Beta - and far from perfect indeed. Personally, I do prefer the Dr.Web plugin for email clients like The Bat and AGV - although in beta as well, they a) work flawlessly (at least for The Bat) and provides much more flexibility as configuration is concerned.
regards.

No problems running it here,WinXP Pro,OE and Pocomail, detected several test mails sent to myself.
ps is it an evalution that expires? or as a beta its free to use till the first stable release?

The Spider Mail Beta does not expire (presuming you do have a licensed copy from Dr.Web). The final release will be a free module for registered Dr.Web users as far as I know.
regards.

I decided to go ahead and purchase Doctor Web yesterday since my AVP liscense was due in two weeks and of course, I had to try SpIDer mail. Just can't resist betas. ;D Seems to be fine on Win2K SP3.
Got to love those Russian security products.

Hi Technodrome!
As you know (I assume ;D) I have tested many virusscanners, freeware and shareware, included DrWeb, and the results from DrWeb were so amazing good in conjunction to the other virusscanners that I have switched to that EXCELLENT :) virus/trojan scanner.
Second fase was testing SpIDer Mail, and with the same results as DrWeb: EXCELLENT ;)
BTW: SpIDer Mail is working very fast, it's scanning the email like a dutch ::) rocket.
Yeah yeah, that is really having fun!!!
Ciao,
Smokey

Yup! DrWeb is strong! DrWeb32 is even able to detect some of Trojans (using heuristics) that KAV will not detect! I like that feature...
I hope you are playing safe with your tests! ;)
Best way to figure out what suites your interest best! ;)
Not recommended for everyone, though!
