This is the state of the FirstDefense-Rescue Pre-Boot. Normally you will want to leave the Pre-boot enabled, but there are times where you may wish to disable the Pre-boot. For example, if you are going to use a drive imaging program to make an image of your system disk, the Pre-boot must be disabled before the image is made otherwise the image may be unbootable. " }-

My imaging software (Macrium Reflect) does a scheduled image in the early hours of each morning. My plan is to schedule FD-ISR Rescue to update the rescue area after the image has taken place. Does the above quote mean that I have to remember to disable the Pre-boot every night and re-enable it every morning?

Hmmm, interesting. In the old "classic" version on my WinXP I do NOT need to disable the preboot in order to restore and use an image. Has this now changed for the new Rescue version on a Win7 system?

Correct, no reason to disable pre-boot anymore for drive imaging applications.

Umm, doesn't that contradict what's in the manual?

Right after a BMR restore, we have no idea where FDR's pre-OS menu will be placed on the disk. This means, unless it was put in the same place, you will not see FDR's pre-OS menu on the very first boot, but all following boots.

We have that in the manual since you are going to run across the guy that complains that he did not see the pre-OS screen on that very first boot.

I am glad you brought this up. I should tweak the manual.

Thanks, Todd, for that clarification.
