I have hit rock bottom here, thought I knew something about computing. I can not get ZoneAlarm to work. Installs fine but, I get the red letters upper right corner system error: please reboot. I go to Administrative tools in XP then services and find that True Vector is set to Automatic but not started. I click on start and get the following message:
Can not start the True Vector Monitor service on local computer
ERROR 1068: The dependency group failed to start
I have called Zone pay support = worthless
I have gone to thier forum = worthless
I am doing trial on all the recommended firewalls and they all work fine except Zone
Thanks for any help from the pros
Lewis ???

Melissa I have gone to the Zone forum, there appears to be many who have the same problem as I. The lights are on but no one is home there, all anyone can say is do a clean uninstall and reboot.

Perhaps you've already taken care of it, so I'm just tossing ideas out here, but if you've been trialing various firewalls, presumably on the same machine, did you make sure that all bits of them were cleaned out after you uninstalled them? (Assuming you uninstalled them, that is. Sometimes ZA doesn't play well with other firewalls...or if any bits of them are left over after an uninstall. So that's one possibility.)

And the ususal ZA "cure all" just in case it was a bum install for some reason is to uninstall, clean any remaining bits out, and reinstall. That's why it's so frequently recommended. Sometimes people are even encouraged to use a fresh download if there are consistent problems with the one you've got.

Without any more info to shed light on why this may be happening, that's all I can think of at the moment.

Another 'problem' might be that the WinXP firewall has not been disabled, or was not during the installation of ZA. ZA works just fine on XP, and this seems to be the source of many, if not most, of the problems I've seen with this combination.

Just something to consider.

On the administrative tool (services), go to the Dependencies tab for True vector and make sure they are started, on my XP (pro) system these are:

AFD-networksupport
Remote procedure call (RPC)
vsdatant

Maybe this will help you?

About ERROR 1068: I found two threads on the Zonelabs forum for you, maybe you could check them out.

Here they are (http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/search?type=Message&advanced=true&submitted=true&body_all=ERROR+1068&body_at_least=&body_without=&page_size=100&subject=&author=&board_id=&ratingstart=&ratingend=)
