View Full Version : Screenshots of Desktop/Start Menu/Taskbar Thread

SirPeterPan
January 2nd, 2010, 11:11 PM
I saw a similar thread in the UNIX area. Since we don't have a Windows area where I can put this thread on, I decided to make it here. Just post screenshots of your desktop, start menu and taskbar here, and whatever you want to add. I'll start:
214594
214595
214598
Running Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x86.

I use Windows Classic Theme, with all visual effects turned off, except the Smooth edge of screen fonts. The start menu has Notepad pinned because I need to run it as Administrator with frequency. The Start Menu folder shortcuts are personalized, but the software shortcuts that appear are those that I run with higher frequency.

I like desktop/taskbar small icons and I use the Customize option to only show those that I need to click with frequency. I don't leave any gadget activated, but sometimes I load the Weather gadget.

On boot startup, only Microsoft Security Essentials, RoboForm Pro, GoodSync Pro and Ad Muncher Pro run. Windows Services were tweaked by PC Tools Registry Mechanic.

(I don't use AnyBizSoft PDF Password Remover that often, so I leave it uninstalled for the most time)

Hmm, the first one is a favourite time wasting thread. Now this 2nd one.::)

Is getting braggy over what software you use and suck up bandwidth as well with these bloated images:P

SirPeterPan
January 2nd, 2010, 11:23 PM
Hey, this is the software and services section. What are you expecting? ;)

The images were automatically optimized, they don't take much bandwidth. If moderators request, I can host them in some external free image hosting service as well.

In the UNIX section there is a similar thread. So I don't see any problem at all. If you don't want to post, just don't post. :)

Desktop: no icons (http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/2504/capture01032010211409.jpg), I do not spend my time looking on it and to start and aplication via an icon on desktop would mean to doublleclick and to minimize everything.

Start Menu (http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/373/capture01032010211419.jpg) to launch with 1 click, what I need daily and Start Menu's list (http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/8959/capture01032010211445.jpg), all nice and tidy, Windows "junk icons" in one folder as well as the others software.

P.S. I would prefer a quick launch taskbar, but since Windows 7 has such a stupid quick launch taskbar, I was forced to abandon it and use only start menu.

Umm, I must be a geek or something. I use my desktop as the sandbox for things I am working on, and rarely to hold programs I seldom use. Normally I cannot even see a background, or it keeps me from finding one of lets say a 'few' files I am working with, so I don't use one normally.

Here is what mine currently looks like, but this changes, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Wow. I really like this utility. It has a lot of stuff I have been looking for since moving to win7 and dropping RivaTuner and Speedfan from ordinary usage. I have been using gadgets, and they work OK, but I like this better I believe.

Can you share what you used resource hacker on? Was it to modify a skin? I messed with it a little bit, hoping I could modify the labels, especially the Temps/fans/nics, but it did not seem to work. Any resources or infos you can share on what you modified?

Sul.

EDIT: I really like this tool. Using resource hacker I modified some of the xml strings to be shorter and not muck up the display quite so much. There are some variables assigned so you can't re-label everything. Overall though, I much prefer this to the gadgets I was using. Thanks ever so much for including the screenshot with this in it!

You can change any of the RGB values to get the desired result;) Highlighted below is the background colour. Best way to find out, is to modify them yourself. Also note, that i have removed all other skins from the script.

Nice wallpaper, btw. It's looking a bit as Stellarium that I like using as a screensaver right now.

Enough minor tweaks to justify an updated shot (http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9735/wipwinter11.png).

Current (http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/1963/35578684.png). Traditional taskbar placement only because it looks a little off in the better locations. Hope to see this (http://ap-graphik.deviantart.com/art/Soft7-2-0-beta-2-161602097) VS fully skinned in the final because I'm too lazy to do it myself.
