It's avasts method of bundling a "toolbar" to get paid, but disguise it in another form I guess. More and more free products sacrificing to search engines :(

I'm not a fan of that at all. Whether Chrome is a "good" or "bad" program makes no difference in my eyes, the bundling thing is annoying, with all programs that do such. I applaud Avast however for not having ANY option pre-checked. Provided Google doesn't leave folders and files behind sneakily even if you choose not to install it, then I'm satisfied, but not well pleased.

i agree so really the are not forcing you into anything, the user still has to decide yes or no to it.

As long as the Chrome install is opt-in I don't see anything wrong with it.

.
Agreed - there's a big difference between "opt in" and "opt out". Opt out is more common and requires that the user be awake to avoid undesirable toolbars, etc ;D

Can you expand on how this relates to the cross-promotion af avast! Free AV and Google's Chrome browser/OS?

I walk to the shop, I see an ad for a particular soft drink.
I install avast!, I see an ad for Google Chrome.
I browse 'Google Pack', it offers me 'avast! Free Antivirus'
I expect that soon, when I install Chrome, I'll see an ad for avast!

For sure I'd rather not have ads at all -but is any of this this really 'bundling'?

P.S. AFAIK Google Chrome won't make you fat or cause tooth decay.

I won't expect that, Google will keep their installers ad-free I think.
