View Full Version : So what do you think of ThreatFire these days?

I used it for quite a while but then got a free license for Mamutu. Not an A vs B question but the reason I ask is, in two days the free a-squared offer is available. If TF is up to snuff I may just keep using Avast (I just finished my six year marriage to NOD32) and Mamutu until the Mamutu subscription expires and then install TF again.

I like ThreatFire but I liked it better before PC Tools started to take features out of it and exporting them to their other products.

I don't run ThreatFire anymore. It's slowing my PC down.

I too should be looking for an alternative that could do the same job...

Both slow down extremly - TF more than Mamutu.
And with a well configured account there is no need for both.
and there is never a need if you use latest outpost or Online Armor or Comodo.
All already have a HIPS.

If you have unknown software (eg. to test) -> sandboxie or VM.

I tried Threatfire on Vista twice. Both times it borked my keyboard, despite an update claiming the issue had been resolved. So no more for me.

I was more than happy with it up until the last update, let me re-phrase that, last uninstall to install the latest update. That's the only way I could get it to update. Any how, after that the mem usage doubled and I had constant high cpu. Long story short, I don't use it anymore

ThreatFire 4.6 works well on a Vista x64 machine, no slowdowns, less CPU time consumed.

On XP I prefered Mamutu (still have al lisence, which I am not using anymore).

I think Avast beta 5 and Mamuto are a good combo, as is A2 offer on 11th, so with either one you can't go wrong.

So it really is choice of two good options (A2 versus Mamutu plus Avast 5)

Agreed. In Win7x64 i had twice alert with no information about the process that started it. Just blank. And i was supposed to make a decision without being able to see the exe... ;D

It just seems that there are bugs, then , as soon as they fix most of them, they change some features or way of functioning of the program and what you get is a new, buggier version.

Ive used threatfire 4.6 with ESS .But made my pc slow.
ive also tried MAMUTU with ESS. But whenever it shows alert it crashed and showed a box to send bug report. Still i have 10 months subscription left. I uninstalled it due to that problem . Now im using Real time defender. Its superb:thumb: . It has behavior blocker. Its very user friendly. I checked keylogger test from zemana with threat fire and mamutu(not in paranoid mode) .
No warning showed. But real time defender showed that its logging keystrokes and blocked. Its superb and not slowing down my pc.

Threatfire is super light on the PCs I use it with (Win7 32bit). Uses almost no CPU time or memory.

Doesn't A2 have mamutu in it as a behavior blocker?

Yes it does. The paid version.

Been running Threatfire with a free AV on one of my Vista laptops for about 6 months now; no problems and very light in real-time.

The new version of TF for me has been a lot more stable than older ones and it takes up a lot less CPU time.

I think you should wait for the final Avast!5. It will have a behavior blocker and a sandbox and several other very good features. It is very light on system resources and free at all (if you don't want to buy the pro or suit version).
I think it will be a very good product!

When in the world is avast 5 coming out anyway? It seems like it's been in beta for like 10 years. Really.

Threatfire 4.7.0.9 released:
{QUOTE-> ThreatFire v. 4.7 is a minor release addressing mostly maintenance issues and bug fixes.
Automatic updates will not be turned on until next week so current users who wish to install this version will have to first uninstall the previous version and then install this new one.
Here’s what’s new:
--PC Security Check will now run for all users after updating, not just new installs
--Status Report has been redesigned
--Compatibility issues addressed
--Other general maintenance issues <-QUOTE}

Same with Blackcat, seems to work well on Vista.

To me, if you're wanting to run it, I find it works well if it is the priority program. For example, running ThreatFire, and then adding on say a simple firewall (OA free with firewall only), and A2 free + Hitman Pro. Or ThreatFire + Sandboxie + A2 Free.

But when you have a solid setup already, with two or three programs, and add ThreatFire, that's where you can have problems.

Seems to run fine in Win7x64 along F-Secure. On a side note , i think the "google toolbar" wasn't in the previous installers, so when you install be careful to uncheck it.
