Hi guys!
Guess this is a question for Prevxhelp.
I saw a post on the Prevx blog some time ago,
that you where looking to hire some Mac OS X developer.
So I just wanted to check if you actually did hire some developers?
And if the development of an Mac version of Prevx has started?
I know it takes a long time to develop but i'm just curious to know!
And I will gladly use it on my new iMac once it becomes available !-)
Cheers, SweX

Hello :)
Yes, we are actively developing Prevx for Mac (and iPhone, and a handful of other platforms in the near future as well :))
I'll let you all know as soon as a beta is available!

Hi PrevXHelp!
Wow, thanks for letting me know. Great news! :thumb:
Then I got two more questions for you.
I wonder if you will keep the detection for Windows malware in the Mac version as well, I would like that anyway? ::)
Even if they are harmless to my Mac I want to keep them out you know.
Are we talking 6-12 months until Beta, or even longer?
No hurry I'm just curious ;)
Cheers, SweX

I don't have too many details on a timeline at the moment yet but I suspect we will be detecting Windows malware on a Mac as well (and vice versa, as it is essentially no overhead on the client's PC because of our cloud database :))

Oh Well Done Prevx!
Some of us Mac(Intel) users have been (im)patiently waiting (and occasionally hinting;) ) for last 3+ years......
Stating the obvious perhaps but presumably this will be written with/for 64bit kernel/ext thus precluding other than (Snow)Leopard systems?

We're working on as much backward compatibility as possible but are going to be focusing from the newest releases and back with support (I know absolutely nothing about anything Mac so I couldn't tell you anything about a Snow Leopard except that it is an endangered animal :))

Ps3 doesn't need prevx Joe, not even a AV?

Sure it doesn't , so this is a scam;D

;D Strange indeed... well, at the moment we're focusing on more popular platforms. I haven't heard of PS3 malware although I'm sure it is indeed possible :)
For now, I think we'll let Trend corner the market for PS3 antivirus while we work on improving Windows and other desktop OS support :)

Hi Prevxhelp.
A couple of months as passed by since this thread was active!
And I just wanted to check how the work on the Mac version is going?
And if the aim is still pointing at March for beta release?
Thanks, SweX

I believe we should have a test version within the next month or so - I'll keep everyone up to date with our roadmap :)

Maybe Prevxhelp (Joe) could give us an update?
We will not likely get to know when it will be released, but rather when the
Mac BETA starts. That's the first step.
Well, it's April now and as I said a status update would be nice ;)
Edit: BTW Joe, if they GUI is some what nice, could you share a screenshot with us? :)

Thank you. But can we expect the Beta this year 2010 you think?
Edit: Or expect the Mac Beta launch when you will release PrevX 4.0 perhaps :)

I honestly don't have a time scale unfortunately but will hopefully be able to report on something more concrete in the near future :)

Thank you.
Well, why I am asking is last time I heard was that the BETA was "probably" due to launch in March/April. Thou I can imagen that it takes time to develop PrevX for a new platform such as OS X. And it's much much better to release a stable release than something half-done. So no need to hurry ;)
But it would indeed be great if you could mention any features or so in the future before the Beta starts so we have something to look forward to.*puppy*
Thanks:)

I suspect we will be synchronizing the release of the beta Mac product with Prevx 4's beta, but I'm not sure of the precise status yet. I will definitely let everyone know here as soon as I know!

Is a MAC version still in development after the Webroot takeover, if so what is the projected timescale for release now?

Yes it is, but I do not have timescales at the moment. However, we are indeed working on support for multiple platforms including mobile OSs :)

Good to know.
And I guess that you don't know if the Mac BETA is going to be released at the same time as the Windows Beta?
Also is the Mac version based on the new coded Prevx 4.0 or old 3.0 ?
Thanks.

I don't believe it will. It is based off of the Prevx 4 architecture but it is fundamentally very different and I don't think we'll see it in beta for some time after the P4 beta.

That's what I thought as well.
But great that it's based on the Prevx 4.0 architecture anyway:thumb:
Thank you.
