Why hasn't my Nod32 updated?

I bought Nod32 a couple of years ago and have been paying the subscription ever since. I have always assumed that Nod32 would automatically update itself as it goes, but recently, I've noticed that the control center claims to be version 2.7 while the latest version of Nod32 seems to be 4.x

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 which probably doesn't make much difference, but it would be nice to get the latest version of Nod32.

How do I go about upgrading.

It updates, insofar as virus definitions and (occasionally) program modules. But the core software itself will never update entire versions.

Does this mean that I've been paying for updates to outdated software?

There are thousands of users who prefer v2 so it wouldn't be a good idea to push v4 to them all (needless to say that some still use Windows 98/ME which is not supported by v3/v4). There will be a program component update for v2 users when v2 is discontinued which will not happen any time soon, however.

Existing users can download and upgrade to newer program versions without paying any additional fee, this has always been ESET's policy. Some other AV vendors issue newer program versions (often with minimum changes) on a yearly basis and upgrade is provided for a fee.

The software does not upgrade to the latest version automatically, but you still get the same protection through virus signature updates. Upgrading is different than updating, in that you are replacing many of the core components of the software. Any time there is a major release, you will need to upgrade to the latest version.
