OK I have a question about webwasher and adshield

I have web washer and just finished downloading adshield. Which one of these should I use for blocking ads and pop ups? I mean I like the fact that web washer blocks web bugs. Is that really a big concern on the internet now a days?


Oh yeah have anyone ever heard or a program named IECookieView? You can find it at webattack.com. If you heard of and know anything about i need to know how do I delete the cookies from the view deleted cookies files.

notageek - A lot of the sites that serve web bugs are blocked or crippled by such programs as IE_SpyAd, S.Martin's 'hosts' file, SpyBlocker, etc.

Are you currently running any of those? Because if you are, then you've got a lot of dupication-of-effort going on.

But, of the two programs you mentioned (WW and AS), there really shouldn't be any conflict, nor much resource drain. AS isn't as versatile as WW - it's more of a complement to what you already have.

USE BOTH!!!! if your computer can handle the resource useage.....use both programs TOGETHER!! my suggestion.
combined use of these two programs compliment each other very well....the same applies to adshield and proxo...

install a block list in adshield....or make your own list...it does not need to be complicated....or it can be as complicated as you want to make it (the list) the same goes for webwasher or proxo

as for the cookie manager you mentioned.....there is also CookieMuncher....and CookieWall.......both of which I have been around awhile......***note: webwasher can filter cookies...however...for those times when you want a cookie one of the above programs can be used....an the cookie filter in webwasher can be dis-able

Snowy Thanks for the help. I need to find a block list now. I do use cookiewall. I been using it for a long time now. I was just in the mood to try something new. I tried emeiling the person that made IECookieVIew and they never replied yet.

A good way to block cookies : simply with IE, just allow the few cookies you may need.*

Give a try to : IE SPy Ad : http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm
to add a lot of tracking sites, ad servers, etc... to the restricted zone

Use WW to block referrers, webbugs and banners by size.

This Hosts counts about 2500 entries.

Which I mentionned and maintain for different security sites counts about 12.000, it's a compilation of all hosts files found on the web plus personal entries (entries from spyblocker, smartin, etc...) and I update it on a monthly basis.
