Is it safe to use?

Is it safe to use a proxy with Sygate 5.5? I was wondering, because I use a proxy to connect through mIRC, and a few other programs, is this affected by the Sygate loop-back issue? or is that just with software proxies (such as proxomitron, etc?)

The localhost/loopback issue with Sygate would only apply to software proxies running on the same system as Sygate.
