Scanning startup makes my computer SO SLOW

Hi,
My "Scanning startup" randomly performs at times, and it effects my computer. My Computer starts going so slow and I play Java games and it randomly gives me a white screen and it freezes my game called Runescape. It also makes my Youtube songs freeze. Is there a way to fix this?

It might be set to scan when the virus database is updated, go and check your " scheduler " settings.
