-{ Quote: "Yeah, I installed, license expires 29/11/09 Thanks anyway" }-I'm actually not sure what's going on here. The license details show
213109
which suggests a single instance one year license (see red arrow, that's basically what the 1-0365 is supposed to mean). It's not clear why the expiration date is basically indicating a short trial. Perhaps something needs to be addressed in the licensing database, but that's just a guess.
I'd wait for either RVS or GOTD to comment directly before firmly asserting that it's basically a trial copy download (which I agree is what is indicated by that expiration date).

I took advantage of the last GAOTD offer of Returnil 2008 Premium.
Not sure whether to download and install this latest offer as my 2008 license is good until Jan. 2010.
Has anyone been able to confirm whether this is a 45 day offer or a one year license?
If it's only 45 days I will not install it. If it is a one year license then I'm not sure if I will or not. Seems like a lot of people are still using the 2008 version because of problems with the 2010 version.

Do you actually need a license for the free version?
If the free version is really "free", why would you have to go to GAOTD to get it? Couldn't you just go to Returnil's site to get it? Also, couldn't you just continuously upgrade the free version when updates become available, or do you have to get a new license every year?
Thanks

Some issue here
License provided by GOTD expires on 2009/11/29 (2010 Lux ed).
But the license provided last year for RETURNIL 2008 premium by GOTD lasts 1 year.
So is it possible to know what happens?
Maybe servers are overloaded?

The offer for today is for the commercial version and must be downloaded from GOATD the free version is available from the Returnil website. Both versions do need registration as far as I'm aware please make sure you go to the GOATD website for the commercial free version. The build which is given away by GOATD can be registered for free by just inputing your name and email in the box. However if you wish to register the commercial version as outlined in todays offer you will then need to input not only your name and email but will also need to input the registration key in the box as well which comes with the download file. :)
by registering the free build that's coming up as 2 years but for the commercial offer that is only showing for 45 days ??? which doesn't make sense and hopefully one of the Returnil team will be able to clarify this point

Hey Nick,
I'm not really sure I'm even going to install it.
As I said, I use the 2008 version which is licensed until Jan. 2010, and if this 2010 version is only a trial version for 45 days, I will probably just stick with my 2008 version.
I realize that at some point I will have to switch over to the 2010 version but hopefully not real soon.
Now, if this latest GAOTD offer would have been a full year license then I may have been tempted.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi all,
thanks for your feedback and patience. Please try downloading RVS from our website one more time ( http://www.returnilvirtualsystem.com/rvs-home-lux ) and use your GOTD license key to register the version again. Unfortunately, due to a small human error, the license was set to the wrong date, however, this was now rectified and the license is now valid for 1 year from activation. It is full RVS 2010 Home Lux version license (not a trial).
Thanks for understanding.

I haven't noticed the date issue and thought it was till the end of November of the coming year. So, Returnil 2010 is still kept installed on my system. Is that enough to "re-register" or should I have to go through uninstall/reinstall routine?

On a simple reregister operation, I did it twice to verify, I do receive a new license assigned message from Returnil as expected, but the date is not reset to one year. It remains at 2009/11/29 on my machine. Same with a complete uninstall/reinstall operation, although I didn't believe this would change matters since license information is retained on a simple uninstall.

Hi Mike!
We have plenty of posts concerning the license issue. It should be free, but that is not case. Users are getting trial licenses only.
Few hours ago we were told that all problems are solved...Wrong information again. I have some standards for my security software, I respect Wilders Security Forums. BUT, the license from GAOTD is only trial.

1. Please advise as to the length of the "trial" period you refer to.
2. I intend to put RVS 2010 through its paces in a VM before installing it for real on my machine. Will this be possible with the GAOTD offer?

Hi Mike,
-{ Quote: "1. Please advise as to the length of the "trial" period you refer to. " }-
The period can be customized but is generally 30 days. The specific version however is set at the server regardless of the installer used and is tied to the License Key (paid versions) or the registration type (free/trial versions).
-{ Quote: "Will this be possible with the GAOTD offer?" }-
Yes as the GAOTD wrapper enforces their terms where the software must be installed within the 24 hours of the giveaway. Installations after that time (new installs or reinstalls) will fail due to that restriction. Those who installed RVS in the proper time frame are only effected by the backend registration issue we are working to solve now so should not uninstall RVS or would encounter the GAOTD install limitation.

@Coldmoon: Thanks for the reply.
From what you say, I now think that the answers to my questions 2 and 3 will depend on the back-end Returnil registration server, not on the GAOTD wrapper.
Because of the problems over the registration period, I actually uninstalled the GAOTD RVS 2010 from my test VM and performed a system rollback, since I didn't want erroneous entries in the registry. That said, as you'll see from an earlier entry of mine on this thread, I tried again this morning and got the same November 29th 2009 expiration date, so once again uninstalled RVS and performed a system rollback. (Note: by then it was outside of the GAOTD time limitation.)
If it's possible, I think that the honorable thing for Returnil to do would be:
1. To fix the registration problem;
2. Then to allow us (say) a further 24 hours to register/reregister with our names and e-mail addresses;
3. Then to restrict (re)registration using the published serial code to those who have already registered with the name and e-mail address supplied in (2) above.
These are all within the control of Returnil, given that the will exists.

To follow up on ZZZ's comment...
libor is described as "Returnil Support", so it's reasonable to believe he speaks with the authority of the company.
A reasonable interpretation of libor's post was that not only was there a problem with the registration key but that the GAOTD version of RVS 2010 was also faulty. (After all, why else would he suggest that we download a fresh copy from the Returnil site?)
In fact, a quick MD5 showed that the GAOTD version and the one downloaded from MajorGeeks are identical, so the GAOTD "wrapper" was just a bit of smoke and mirrors and the real controlling elements were/are the registration key and the Returnil registration server.
Unfortunately, I (and I suspect many others too) will have taken libor's advice and, in doing so, uninstalled the original copy.
We need definitive guidance. Do we reinstall and re-register the product now or do we wait until Returnil think that they've solved the problem? Perhaps Coldmoon could advise us as to what we should do.

So, if the wrapper doesn't run, that information won't be presented unless the user saved it in a prior execution.
-{ Quote: "Unfortunately, I (and I suspect many others too) will have taken libor's advice and, in doing so, uninstalled the original copy." }-As did I, but I retained the initial key and used a second downloaded copy of the installer as libor indicated. The result was the same as if using the complete GOTD install, as would be anticipated by the hash values. However, I did keep that install active. Unless you wiped your system of all traces of RVS after the uninstall, using a downloaded copy of RVS2010 from the link provided by libor should see the initial GOTD registration result and immediately use that.
-{ Quote: "We need definitive guidance. Do we reinstall and re-register the product now or do we wait until Returnil think that they've solved the problem? Perhaps Coldmoon could advise us as to what we should do." }-As libor indicated, existing installs should have received a message in the RVS message center with instructions. Naturally, RVS needs to be installed and have been activated (with one of those 45 day licenses) for this to occur. That is how my own install behaves, the information provided now works, and the license period on my install has been correctly set using the information provided in that message.
I would recommend those participating in thread who are still running into or dealing with any difficulty (no message received, other issues, etc.), handle it on a case-by-case basis with Coldmoon or libor via PM. That is likely the most efficient course of action at this point.

Hi BlueZannetti,
WRT the "wrapper", it seems simply to have been a time-limited way of providing us with a copy of the standard RVS_2010.EXE file that we can download from Returnl/MajorGeeks at any time, except that the wrapper offered other GAOTD-related functionality. The accompanying "readme.txt" file wasn't part of the wrapper, so I still have the registration code. As I said in a previous post, I'm testing the app in a VM so rolled back to a previous (and clean) snapshot, so all traces of the previous installation would/should have been cleaned up.
Anyway, after libor's last post saying that the problem had been fixed, I installed the app to a clean VM and received the revised instructions, so the expiration date is now showing November 24th 2010. Kudos to Returnil for sorting out the problem.
@Coldmoon: What I did notice is the appearance of three new cookies on the system. (On a clean VM installation you notice this kind of thing!) Since I am quite fastidious about clearing old cookies off my "real" machine, perhaps you or someone else could advise whether these cookies are critical to the continued functioning of RVS 2010. I don't want to delete them and trash RVS -- at least not just yet!

The Returnil nearly would have lost most due to this sad episode, but did have been reincarnated maybe more strongly by a rightful measure.

Hi all :)
If you were one of the members who did uninstall the GOATD offer it wont matter as just by reinstalling the software all of your details will have been maintained . You just need to follow up with the instructions as set out in the message panel and you will then be able to register the software correctly

Well, I'm all sorted. I originally had the 45 trial, then registered just as the free version.Today I had a message with a link containing a new key.So now I've got the home lux till November 2110. :)
Thank you very much, i appreciate it.

I have just updated the licenses for two computers in my family, which was smoothly done. I haven't uninstalled GOATD version from neither of them just in case you are wondering. I think Returnil support team did a good job for both groups. Thank you for the nice product with the nice support.

Hi Nick,
Is that by reinstalling using the GAOD setup exe, I think I kept that, in case the issue was resolved.
I will try tonight and report back either way.

That's unlikely to work, since setup.exe phones home to GAOTD to check whether the offer is still current (which it isn't), but you can download the RVS_2010.EXE from the Returnil site and use the registration code from the "readme" file that was included in the GAOTD zip file.
In my case a fresh install worked, so Returnil thankfully don't seem to have applied strict time limits to the registration process.

The best bet is to just download like i have just done from Returnil and install and as i say there will be a message for you waiting provided you have already applied for the registration.

Thanks Mike and Nick,
I will try tonight, downloading direct from the Returnil site, they should have a record of my several attempts at registration until I gave it up as a bad job.;D

If you have RVS installed, check the new message. There is new link for new serial. Thats all. :argh:
Thanks for fixing this issue! Respect.
