Seven is just a glorified patch regarding Vista and is working just fine so far.

Official Version V4 is expected soon this year.

But I don't see anything wrong with the way Softpedia lists Comodo.
It will benefit anyone that wants to d/l and install Comodo. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Well, when they first made plugging-up and giving ridiculous explanation about that, it was too much. Is not about this or that product, or using the product or not, but one must asks himeself what was the reason for that? :lurking:
While this product was "banned", and users go browsing trought Softpedia and find many other products like from Symantec or others that have the identical thing it was dubious and really silly situation to see.

All I have read re. Comodo and it's antics will cause me not to touch anything

Wikipedia does not make a difference:
"Adware or advertising-supported software is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer after the software is installed on it or while the application is being used."

Apart from that I don't think CIS is Adware, it's just Software with a superfluous, preselected Toolbar.

Softpedia never gave ridiculous explanations. They have shown respect for their policies and opinions. Now if they have treated other software in different ways...everyone is free to say it around and eventually discredit Softpedia and/or eventually make Softpedia correct the issues. Forgive me but I would also like to ask...since when wikipedia and RejZoR have become the pure source of truth and wisdom?

These for sure are old discussions and had no intention to open them again, but in general I cannot accept any security software that provides with the installer and something else, except of the software itself, even if it's free. In any case these toolbars like Ask etc. are not the end of the world although I find them highly annoying.

I don't have to convince anybody. The point for a software is to not get blacklisted by all us...the client base ( it's not the case of CIS...I'm talking in general ).

For me the installer is clearly a different thing from the program installed and functioning. In any case I'm tired discussing the same things over and over again and I leave this thread alone.

Who defines what "adware" is ? I, personally, concur with how Softpedia defines it. Any software that advertises other softwares is adware. CIS's installer promotes Ask Toolbar, which is clear advertising. The user doesn't install CIS expecting an appended toolbar.

There isn't much to say here. All softwares that come bundled with extraneous programs are adwares, and CIS is one of them.

maybe, but i dont think ANYONE WANTS the ask toolbar, while people who play starcraft, typically wuld like those other games... ask toolbar is completely unrelated to the products job, so i consider it that for that reason. like if CIS promoted CIS Pro then that wuld be fine cuz its a related product and something a user of CIS MIGHT actually be interested in.

Regarding CCleaner and the Yahoo toolbar;

deselecting the option to add it doesn't entirely remove it from the install process.

Following installation of CCleaner and opting out of also installing the toolbar, it still shows up in the registry as "Yahoo Partner Toolbar" (two instances).
I've been told it doesn't matter, that it hasn't been installed, but those registry keys shouldn't be there if the user opted out.

Things like this make me wonder what goodies might be hidden in these free one year licenses for antivirus/security suite applications as well as other software.
I've taken advantage of some of these offers and will continue to do so if the offer is for something I can use, but I still wonder about my privacy being compromised and if this "free" software is really free in the truest sense of the word.
