I have a PcTel MSP-5900-U modem, I wanted to update the drivers, I found a few at www.driverguides.com, I scanned them for malware, they checked out OK, now, I installed one driver, it didn't install properly, so I removed it, I then reinstalled another one (I have a backup of my original driver) that worked, but, wasn't very stable, I then uninstalled it, figuring I can easily reinstall my old driver back, and just use that, instead, I got alot of other weird things (Which i've seeemed to fix) it recognizes my modem, but there are only a frw files under the driver files list, and I cannot reinstall my old driver, instead it lists in a list the 2 I installed earlier, I tried removing th eparts from the registry, but it still wont work!, I talked to a person on computing.net (not wanting to bother you all with another question) and I still can't get online with my other PC, cause I cant get the driver files installed! :( I can't figure this out!, I've tried for 3 gours already, can anyone else help me?

Have you tried 'removing' the modem from Device Manager before reinstalling the original driver?

If possible try to intall the drivers in safe mode, sometimes this will help.

Hey Comp01
Do what was recommended by bigc73542, shame you aren't XP user we could easily see ghost devices....

I seemed to have gotten it fixed (done a find files for all the driver files, deleted them in safe mode, restored the registry to the day before I updated the modem drivers, restarted, and reinstalled my old backups)....
