The catch is to use an OEM version one has to buy the hardware on which it runs. Microsoft discourages OEM installation on any other than the computer for which it is sold.

Supplier brands such as HP, Compaq, ASUS, Toshiba etc.. your outta luck with an OEM, but if your system was custom built, then any OEM will work ;)

So will a Windows 7 OEM run on my Dell? I currently have Vista Home Premium and was wanting to upgrade.

Short answer is it Will, but be prepared to lose your hidden restore partition

I custom build all of my pcs and bought Vista OEM for about £60 (in the UK) - a lot cheaper than the retail version!

Windows 7 Professional $179AUD at my Computer supplier :dry: but a retail store copy would cost $400AUD :lurking:

No not unless you like all the stuff that comes pre-installed with Dell, If not then it wont matter.
