Hey guys I keep getting the error message saying that there was an error during the update (orange colour error message). v4.0.437.0 worked fine and I even went back to that just to make sure and that won't update either :o I am connected to the net no problems at all it's just this little problem.
Any help appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Ok gone back yet again to v4.0.437.0 and what a nightmare that was!! First the uninstall didn't work and I had to do the whole thing manually. Finally got it installed and the AV wouldn't load properly saying the program needed reinstalling. So an uninstall with Your Uninstaller plus registry cleaning plus appdata removal and finally got it to work and installed... so where is the problem? It still will not update! I can still connect to the internet and all that so is it a update server issue? Please please reply I am miles behind with the virus db!!

Uninstall ESET from the control panel. Then go to documents and settings, all users, application data, and delete the ESET folder. Remember to show hidden files.
Check your program files for an ESET folder and if it exists, delete it.
If need be, use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and remove any ESET entry.
Restart and reinstall.

Thank you for your replies I have done everything in both your replies and still the same issue with not updating. I even tried tried it without having update details just to see if it gave the invalid username and password error which it did not (same orange message "error downloading update file/s").
The whole problem started yesterday for no apparant reason which is even more strange! As far as I can tell my system is virus free, as it is I have gone back to v2.7 (which has updated fine first time) until this is solved but I am totally lost on what to look at next as the possible cause let alone a solution.
Thank you for your time.

That's odd. At any rate, I'd try enabling "Prerelease updates" (formerly known as test mode) in the update setup to see if that helps.

Thank you Marcos for your support, I have tried what you suggested and still the same result. It's like it won't connect to the server itself or something I can access the internet no problems at all so I have no idea :(
