Ubuntu installation guide

Hi all,

I've written a very long Ubuntu installation guide, starting with seemingly trivial basics like which arch or release to choose from on the Ubuntu site, how to check your ISO MD5 via burning to full, step-by-step installation, with quite a bit of emphasis on partitioning.

I think this can be quite useful, especially for new users ... Enjoy!

Yet another good guide, have you any plans to write a book ?

It might be worth mentioning there is the alternate CD, for when the LiveCD does not work e.g. Due to the GUI (due to a bug in XOrg a year ago it would freeze on me. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate

Hi Nick,

Write a book? I already did write several ... but not published them yet:

- Two fantasy books, currently in the process of publishing.
- My Linux book, kind of 1,000 pages written, not much progress lately ...
- Other stuff? Well, the site itself does the job well I think.

Multiboot:

- I have XP & Kubuntu ... Windows 7 and Ubuntu coming soon. This will one will dabble quite seriously in partitioning, including resizing on NTFS partitions and whatnot. Written, just waiting for the right moment ...
- Alternate CD, mentioned in the RAID tutorial, which I use to create the setup.

Both Ubuntu and Kubuntu now offer editions for regular PCs and modified mini versions for netbooks and MIDs.

Don't forget that the Alternate CD is what you need if you wish to utilize whole disk encryption.
