My sister has a Win 2000 desktop, no NIC, and uses dial-up.

She will add a Win 7 system at some point, and eventually move to cable internet (Cablevision/Optimum).

So she needs to understand what this means.

She will need to add a router, and a NIC (for the win 2000 system).

What would be the best book for her to read?
There are way too many in the Dummies series, so I would not know which to recommend.

I'd like a book that emphasizes routers, rather than hubs, switches or cross-over cables, as the latter would only further confuse her.

11 years ago, when I added a win 98 desktop, I had to go thru the same exercise to add a NIC to my Win 95 system.
As I was using dial-up, I took the easy way out and used a cross-over cable, then a few years later, I added a router for printer and file sharing, in anticipation of adding more computers, then on 11 May 2009, I finally went to cable internet.

I'd rather she do this all at once, i.e., switch to cable internet, and get a router at the same time. Might be easier that way.
