Removing antivirus/spyware

I just downloaded the trial version of NOD32 for 64 bit systems. The trial version of Norton that came with the computer was removed before pick up. However, I still have whatever anti-spyware that is built into Vista 64. I see no instructions for removing that. Is it necessary to remove this Vista component or can I proceed with installing the trial versioin? Thanks.

windows defender ? open windows defender and go to tool options and at the bottom uncheck use this program.
