Yes, they dont need to make it free, but they want to... if you dont like it, dont use it... simple as.

I dont see the big problem as its optional whether to install the toolbar or not.If you were forced to install it then thats another matter entirely.

- Symantec stuff bundles ask toolbar, please uninstall it (perhaps a good idea :D)
- CCleaner bundles yahoo toolbar, please uninstall it
- PDF Creator bundles yahoo toolbar iirc, please uninstall it
- Skype bundles its toolbar, please uninstall

- Google stuff bundles google toolbar, there is a difference except google is better as search engine?

Ask.com is just junk. IAC, Zango, once a rogue, always a rogue ?

It was not that long ago I could still find Zango on the web (malware). Of course, I was looking for it, attempting to test a security program.

The ASK search engine is at best third rate.

Most people don't know about the ASK/IAC history and are not aware of these isssues. They think they are getting a freebie. I think it's a bad idea to offer the toolbar with any product.

I use PDF Creator great program but yeah it does have that stuff, just have to not enable it so it never gets installed. These software programmers get a kick back including stuff like that they give you free.

I agree with Fly, Ask is junk.
But I can understand why some programs are putting toolbars in their software. It's $.
At least make installation optional.

I don't care for toolbars myself.

There was a time, not that long ago, when freeware/shareware didn't include toolbars. I used software in the 1990s that didn't include toolbars.

Most people don't know about the privacy and sometimes security issues associated with toolbars. I see it as taking advantage of the ignorant masses.

I once saw the computer of someone who had about 5 Google toolbars, 5 Yahoo toolbars in different languages, and more.

For as far as I know ClamWin isn't exactly a great AV. So why use it ?

My problem with Ask, is ethical. Even if all antiviruses swear that NOWDAYS it's clean, i can't put up with the fact that used Zango and Co as the means for getting the money and becoming today "clean". It's like being a mafia boss, getting rich, then deciding to go legit and going down to elections for mayor. I won't vote him, simply because i can't forgive its past.

Even more, why use ClamWin, when you can wait a bit longer and use the GNU original CLAMAV which is being ported to Windows?

The way i see it, as soon as ClamAV is ready for Windows, ClamWin will be effectively out of business. So they thought of making some $ with ASK before closing the curtains.
