Its a proposal at the moment, not a firm yes.

I'm not suprised to be honest, but wont give it a thumbs down if it does add a toolbar.
Its free - stop being so demanding :P

It's free, and they incur expenses no doubt.
Good will doesn't pay for hosting for example :)

no need to make it free. Who is asking them for a free clamwin. All lame excuses.

I think if clamwin will go with AskToolar it is not an open source software any longer.

you are free to use the free clamwin, then you'll get the lovely Ask for free as well ;D

Wouldn't quiet say its a "lame excuse".
Yes, they dont need to make it free, but they want to... if you dont like it, dont use it... simple as.

I dont see the big problem as its optional whether to install the toolbar or not.If you were forced to install it then thats another matter entirely.

just two words:
I don't like crusades.
- Java bundles yahoo toolbar, please uninstall it
- Symantec stuff bundles ask toolbar, please uninstall it (perhaps a good idea :D)
- CCleaner bundles yahoo toolbar, please uninstall it
- PDF Creator bundles yahoo toolbar iirc, please uninstall it
- Skype bundles its toolbar, please uninstall
it
- Google stuff bundles google toolbar, there is a difference except google is better as search engine?
- other examples?

Ask.com is just junk. IAC, Zango, once a rogue, always a rogue ?
It was not that long ago I could still find Zango on the web (malware). Of course, I was looking for it, attempting to test a security program.
The ASK search engine is at best third rate.
Most people don't know about the ASK/IAC history and are not aware of these isssues. They think they are getting a freebie. I think it's a bad idea to offer the toolbar with any product.

I use PDF Creator great program but yeah it does have that stuff, just have to not enable it so it never gets installed. These software programmers get a kick back including stuff like that they give you free.

I agree with Fly, Ask is junk.
But I can understand why some programs are putting toolbars in their software. It's $.
At least make installation optional.
I don't care for toolbars myself.

Yeah, it mostly happens with free stuff. Their creators need to eat as well ;D

There was a time, not that long ago, when freeware/shareware didn't include toolbars. I used software in the 1990s that didn't include toolbars.
Most people don't know about the privacy and sometimes security issues associated with toolbars. I see it as taking advantage of the ignorant masses.
I once saw the computer of someone who had about 5 Google toolbars, 5 Yahoo toolbars in different languages, and more.

looks like clamwin officially (http://www.clamwin.com/content/view/214/1/) decided to partner with Ask toolbar:shifty: :thumbd:

Spyware by my definition.
IAC.
Once a rogue, always a rogue.
For as far as I know ClamWin isn't exactly a great AV. So why use it ?

My problem with Ask, is ethical. Even if all antiviruses swear that NOWDAYS it's clean, i can't put up with the fact that used Zango and Co as the means for getting the money and becoming today "clean". It's like being a mafia boss, getting rich, then deciding to go legit and going down to elections for mayor. I won't vote him, simply because i can't forgive its past.
-{ Quote: "For as far as I know ClamWin isn't exactly a great AV. So why use it ?" }-
Even more, why use ClamWin, when you can wait a bit longer and use the GNU original CLAMAV which is being ported to Windows?
-{ Quote: "Win32
The native port for win32 available at http://w32.clamav.net IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED.
A new version of ClamAV for Win32 is under work. We plan to re-introduce support for Win32 platform in ClamAV 0.96 . You can follow the development of this port on our bugzilla (see bug #802) or our git repository." }-
http://www.clamav.net/download/packages/packages-win32/
The way i see it, as soon as ClamAV is ready for Windows, ClamWin will be effectively out of business. So they thought of making some $ with ASK before closing the curtains.

Here's a thread at the MBAM (http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=27850) forum where a project admin for clamwin defends the addition of ASK toolbar
