Hi,
I've just purchased Drive Backup Pro. The file backup seems extremely slow. It took over 4 hours to back up 316MB of files (~5000 files). My ZIP program takes two minutes. Running under Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit on dual core Dell laptop.
Is this expected?
Can I speed it up somehow?
Tried to acceess knowledge base, but it is inaccessible.
Thanks,
Mike

I think it´s not normal.
Give more information:
- Build
- Type of Backup
- S.O. Servicepacks installed?
- Log
- Etc..

Windows Vista Ultimate SP2, fully updated.
Drive Backup™, version 9.0, build 8681 (29.07.09 )Professional
Components versions:
Paragon Base Services Library, version 1.1, build 8681 (29.07.09 )
hdm.dll, version 9.0, release 9, build 10081
biont.dll, version 9.0, release 9, build 10081
biont.sys, version 9.0, release 9, build 10081
I'm using the "file backup wizard" and selecting a subfolder to backup to an external USB disk.

I suspect this is a Vista issue, not Paragon. I had a similar issue copying files to a CD using Vista's "Send to". Very slow file copying seems to be a Vista "feature" - try Googling. Here's one useful link I found:

Hi,
It´s possible, i think it´s not a problem of Paragon, I try in W7 with the same version and don´t have any problem. Also try with Workstation version in Windows Xp and no problem.
Try the solutions of the link, and tell us.

I've now tried a few of the suggestions for speeding up Vista file operations - they don't seem to have any effect.
I think this is a Vista "feature" and it looks like it will be a "feature" of Windows 7 too. See this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/itprovistadesktopui/thread/30c9c7f3-2cc4-426a-9db9-885086ff183e/

It's not a Vista issue! Sorry if I misled anyone. I've tried under Windows XP and it is equally slow. For example, less than 1GB of data takes over an hour and a half on dual-core laptop. A simple (Windows-level) file copy takes less than 2 minutes.
Is it only me that has these problems?

Hello,
The file and incremental backup do have known issues to be considerably slower than the sector level backups. The alternative for now is the differential backup. Drive Backup 10 has already addressed this issue and the File Backup will be on par with the sector backup.
We will certainly try to resolve your issues with the help of DB 10 when it launches the next month or so.
Best Regards,
Tommy Phan
