View Full Version : Prevx license won't install.

Hi, this my first post.
My Prevx license won't install. I put the license in, the pop-up box says it is activated, but it goes back to as it was.
Now some background. When I installed Prevx, I turned off my Iobit 360 Security Pro because it uses too much CPU during installations. (I have now been told that Iobit has an install mode). Anyway, I have looked in the Prevx program files folder in Windows, and the only thing in there is Prevx, nothing else. Either it is very light/compact, or something fouled up. I mean, where could you even hold the license information in the folder?
Also, I did one uninstall with Revo-uninstaller. (Windows never even picked it up in the add/remove programs from the control panel). Now Revo-uninstaller gives me an error message when I try to uninstall it. And in the "start-all programs" menu, there is no uninstaller. There seems to be nothing in this program.
In my Process Explorer Prevx is running in two places.
When I try a new install, Prevx just starts running, with no new installation screen, and no new files in the folder.
Is the registry wrecked? Should I manually delete? Should I use CCleaner on the registry? Do I have to re-install Windows?
This program looks good, and I want to try it; but if it does not work/install properly, there is no point.
Thank you for your time, and please help.
Jace.

Did you try that for uninstalling already?

It IS light/compact! - Just one file in that folder. That's ok. ;-)

Is it really that light?
I installed Prevx 2.0, and there are 48 in the 2.0 folder.
There is just one in 3.0.
Thanks for the link. The exe file flashed a few command promps. hope it worked.

Hi, can anyone help with this?
Can anyone confirm that there is only one item in the Prevx 3.0 folder?
(While there are approxiately 48 in the Prexv 2.0 folder.)
Where is my license stored?
Why won't the license work?
Please respond as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Yes there is only 1 file in that folder but some more in ProgramData folder! You will have to wait for a Prevx rep to answer the rest.

Prevx 3.0 will install three components into your system:
The Prevx.exe usermode protection/configuration program
One system service to load Prevx.exe on bootup
One kernel mode driver named pxsec.sys to provide full system protection
These components may trigger warnings from installed HIPS products, so, be sure to allow Prevx 3.0 access to the system to install properly. During installation, you may experience a UAC popup if you are using Vista with UAC enabled. This is normal and is required for Prevx 3.0 to install all of its components properly into the system." }-
Really :) ... there is only that one prevx.exe in program files! *nokidding*
-{ Quote: "(While there are approxiately 48 in the Prexv 2.0 folder.)" }-
v2 just was a whole different animal. Much more popups, configuration etc. ;)
-{ Quote: "Where is my license stored?" }-
Not in program files, that's for sure! I guess somewhere in registry, but who knows. ;)
-{ Quote: "Why won't the license work?" }-
Sorry, I do not know. - Do you have unrestricted (firewall?) internet access?
You have to enter the license then it is checked online with their servers and after that if valid -> activated and saved. If that doesn't work something is definitely wrong but I am sure PrevxHelp will sort this out for you very soon. ;)

Thank you Triple Helix. I was going to ask for a photo of anyones Prevx folder; you read my mind and answered my request preemptively.
Those files are not in my Prevx folder.
Only the Prexv application is in the folder.
Why are those other files missing?
Is my registry damaged?
Did Iobit 360 Security do this?
Do I have to re-install Windows?
Please help.
Can someone send me the folder files?
Thank you.

There is 1 file in C>Program Files only. Did you try what guest said to do in this post? http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1537841&postcount=2

Sorry I wasn't 100% correct.
My Prevx is on Windows XP, not Vista. So I am not sure if there is a ProgramData folder in XP. There are definitely no CSI files in the C:\Program Files\Prevx folder, just the Prevx application.
I went to http://info.prevx.com/service.asp, and they aren't helping at all.
Anybody? Can you send the Prevx folder files for Windows XP?

I use XP SP3 (german) and the mentioned files are here:
c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\PrevxCSI\
But I don't think it is a good idea to copy them from another user?
I believe you have those files anyway but just not found until now.
However .. I am pretty sure they are not the 'problem'. I guess
you have to wait for PrevX-Support.

Okay, the second picture is correct.
Can I put my license activation key directly in the registry?
Why won't the license install?
Is this the only thing Prevx puts on the computer?
I did what guest said to do. I think this helped uninstall. It flashed a bunch of command prompt screens.

Thank you guest.
I translated c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\PrevxCSI to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PrevxCSI.
There is also a C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Prevx folder.
But where is the license stored? Is it in a notepad file? Just the registry? Somewhere else?

Hi, thanks for that picture. I put my license right there and the pop-up box says "Prevx Malware Detection has been activated".
But the status page still shows the malware removal and realtime protection as buy/ activate.
Please help.

First, welcome to Wilders Security Forms.....
I believe you are going to have to wait for the Prevx Moderator, PrevxHelp, to answer your technical questions jacemace.
Hang in there, PrevxHelp (Joe) will be along soon. You are in good hands with Prevx Help (Joe).....real professional he is.
Just leave the Thread as is and check back later, often.....

No. *If* it is saved there (I don't know just guess!) then of course somehow 'encrypted' and not in plain text. I couldn't find my license through registry search, just tried it. - So this is probably not the way to solve your problem, unfortunately. ;)
-{ Quote: "Mine will not activate." }-
Did you try non-beta version already? (3.0.1.65)
Who knows ... RC has quite some bugs and is in my opinion just now more beta than RC. ;)
jacemace
September 10th, 2009, 09:02 PM
Yes, I used 3.0.1.65 first. The same thing happened. Then I switched to 3.0.4.183.
Where is the license stored?
Did iobit Security 360 blacklist Prevx?
jacemace
September 10th, 2009, 09:03 PM
Why would Prevx say "Prevx Malware Detection has been activated" and then not activate?
Has anyone else had this problem?

Okay, I'll wait for Joe Prevx Help.
In the meantime, has anyone else had this problem?

Being that this application is cloud based technology, the clients software license most likely is not stored on the clients computer.
The clients software license most likely is stored on the Prevx Server along with an MachineID, in other words:
Prevx License Key + Client MachineID = Activation.....PrevxHelp, correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks HKEY1952.
Interesting information.
I think I will try Spyware Terminator instead.
I'm going to uninstall Prevx and perhaps try it later, or not.
I'll give it 1 star on cnet.
Cheers.

Did you download Prevx from CNET?
If you did that might be your problem.
One should always download and purchase the Installer from the Orginal Venders Web Site

Are you really a person that bought Prevx, or are you a troll for a competitor that decided to post your heart out at this forum in a brief period and then decide you couldn't stand the delay anymore? ::)

That is fine, that is your prerogative, however, please think twice before Publicly Posting Software Ratings for Prevx or any other Software Vender.
Most problems encountered with software are the results of client computers configuration problems, or the client mistakenly configuring something wrong.
Here at Wilders Security Forums, members have donated their time to you in thirty plus Posts.....Please take that into consideration also when Publicly Posting Ratings.

Nor am I an fan of Cloud Based Technology, at least not completely.....
I'll tell ya.....at first I totally rejected the idea of cloud technology, why, because I did not understand the concept, however,
after reading the Prevx Forum over and over again, and having an one-on-one conversation with PrevxHelp, I gained knowledge of the concept behind cloud technology.
Cloud Technology is definitely the wave of the future, and Prevx is definitely on top of the heap.....should I ever go all the way and commit to cloud technology.....
Prevx will be the choice of security software.....

I have never used that contact for technical support.
I have asked my questions in the Prevx forums here at Wilders, because I much prefer it that way.
I have always received prompt and friendly service from Joe (PrevxHelp).
He must be indisposed at the moment, but I am sure he will be able to help when he checks back to this thread. Patience is a virtue. :)

Hey.....crap happens.....perhaps there are technical problems somewhere on the Prevx end.....
I'll tell ya, I have never observed or experienced such professional technical responses anywhere other than here on the Wilders Security Forums.
PrevxHelp (Joe) is to be commended and appreciated for his talent and knowledge to respond in an intellectual and professional manner. PrevxHelp (Joe's) knowledge
of the inner workings of the Prevx Security Software are overwhelmingly impressionable, and in my opinion PrevxJoe is one of the most valuable assets for Prevx.
I believe that we are going to have to start referring to PrevxHelp (Joe) as PrevxJoe ;D

Hi Jacemace,
We're all awake and in the office in the UK now, so I apologise for our delayed response :)
I've had a quick look in our support system, and can see one of our representatives answered your query this morning (we responded in 10 hours and 6 minutes by the way). We can't find a license key under your details (name, email address, etc), therefore if you would be able to provide this (either through the support interface, or to me here via PM), then we will be able to investigate what is going wrong.
I would assume at this point you are either applying an expired license key, OR you are applying a "Detection Only" license key (as provided through our business malware monitor service). This means the license would be "accepted", but you don't actually get the cleanup or removal modules activated.
Any further information would help us diagnose any issue :)

The only technical problem we had was the periodic need for sleep. Our systems are automated but we have yet to master the ability to go without sleep for days on end :)

To jacemace: I believe PrevxWebDesigner is correct - you are most likely using a Business license which only provides malware detection for testing our "Malware Monitor" in a business environment. You cannot simply copy the program files across from one computer to another - you need to use the license applet within the program to register your license (and yes, there is indeed only one program file :) We've completely re-engineered the software from the ground up in Prevx 3.0).
Let me know if you have any further questions and sorry for the delayed response :-[
