Tom Kelchner at Sunbelt Systems reports on malicious software (the Protection System "rogue") that issues a phony alert trying to trick a Windows user into uninstalling MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware.

The phony message reads

"There is unauthorized antivirus software detected on your computer. It is recommended you to remove it, other it could conflict with Protection System. Press OK to remove MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware_is1".

Conflict indeed. This is the ultimate compliment for an anti-malware program." }-Article (http://blogs.computerworld.com/14668/dont_be_tricked_into_uninstalling_malwarebytes)

Hadn't run Protection System before even though I had some installers so decided to give it a run and as the article states.

MBAM still kicks Protection System's butt if you say no to the uninstall.

installer.exe - TR/PCK.Tdss.Y.379 - Result: 17/41 (41.47%)

MBAM is certainly a very good product. I've just had my first experience using it to remove a nasty rogue app called Windows Police Pro from a friends machine. It passed with flying colours as well as removing several others including mywebsearch. I'll definately be using this again the next time my mates get a bit click happy!
