Uninstalling Dr. Web 5.0 on Vista

Hello,

we have installed Dr. Web 5.0 on Windows Vista. However, it's conflict with native antivirus software installed (McAfee) causes the system to crash. Does someone know how to uninstall this software from Win Vista completely (and forever :) )
Control panel uninstall resulted with "Self protection cannot be disabled" message. Further trying with removing components manually also did not work.
Thanks to anyone for any possible advice we could get.

Never have two AV solutions installed at the same time! Doing that can result in system instability, missed detections etc. weird stuff, as you already have found out.

Perhaps you should first remove McAfee, and then try to remove Dr. Web? McAfee does provide a removal tool for their products.

ouch, maybe system restore will bring you back to when you didnt have dr web just mcafee, then you can remove mcafee before putting drweb back on.

why did you think a second av on top of mcafee was a good idea anyway :o

Hmm, dell boy might be on right track here :) If you can, try to restore a situation prior of installing the second AV.


If that's not possible, I'd try downloading the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool, and booting to Safe Mode, and trying to remove at least one piece of the puzzle first :)

If you can rid your system off of the other AV, perhaps you can stand a chance to remove the other then?

Removal tool (http://forum.drweb.com/index.php?showtopic=277909) for Dr Web here if normal uninstall/system restore does not work. Run this tool and then reboot.
