In my experience DrWeb AntiVirus has been the most successful

As far as I know,AVG is good at healing. And avast! has a feature which can restore computer's files and replace those infected files.

I think DrWeb for sure, kaspersky, norton and eset (in safe mode most of the times). Norton maybe, but I don't have much experence with it.
Yes, avast has VRDB (VirusRecoveryDatabase), but I found it useless. It will not be included in avast 5 I think.

Dr. Web.

Dr. Web also offers a free stand alone scanner and bootable CD with a scanner.

Today many malwares are very complex and dangerous: they install in a system drives, trojans, rotkits too.....I would not sure, neither satisfied, of a simple cleaning if my pc was serious infected.

The best way IMO is to prevent any infection and to have a disk imaging software - saved in an external support - to restore if the pc was infected. May be I'm a bit paranoid ;D but if my system was infected - serious infected I mean - before the image restoring I would format all. ;D

he has said he wants a complete realtime solution, although dr web cure it is very good for healing those stubborn viruses like virut, it isnt a realtime solution, if dr web antivirus has those same capabilities as cureit and livecd, then that would be the solution i think.

McAfee, IMO, has always been very good at cleaning malware. Back in the old days of 2002-2003, I remember having dozens of incidents where a number of AVs would detect an infection but only McAfee would completely and properly (to a usable extent) clean the infection. Since that time AVs have come a long way, but I wouldn't be surprised if this remains one of McAfee's strong points.

IMO Kaspersky (2009 and later), AVG, McAfee, Symantec (2008 and better), Dr.Web and Rising (yes, I said Rising) are good at cleaning infections (I mean removing registry traces, cleaning files, repairing system configuration changes, etc.)......:)

As you all know I am fan of Rising (RAV, PC Doctor and Full Rising Internet Security) these programs do very good job cleaning or removing the threats of today. AVIR PE not bad I use that on wireless laptops more some desktops use it too with Comodo FW+Defense. Still comparing both Rising and Comodo+AVIR which also does a very good job protecting about 50/50. So RAV or RIS for antivirus protection AVIR PE close second if you set HIPS to the max though.

Some have problems understanding the difference between REMOVAL and REPAIRING/CLEANING. They all just bin everything under CLEANING.
But it's not like that.

Removal means just deleting the infected file. ANY antivirus can do that. But repairing/cleaning infected files is something not many do well. And yes, McAfee is among those that do pretty well in cleaning file infectors.

German CHIP magazine just stated today the following:
http://www.chip.de/downloads/Dr.-Web-Antivirus_37926238.html#
But I do not see any data on which they base their claim on.

and it's said by CHIP magazine:
(google translate)-{ Quote: "Conclusion: In our practice test failed the complete cleaning of installed malware and rootkits. Since you are using freeware programs such as Avira AntiVir and avast 4 Home better served." }-

I agree with you, except for kaspersky that wasn't very stable. Bitdefender 2010 is very good in my opinion, it has very good detection.

People that say Mcafee in this thread should be shot. :o

Yes it can clean and repair but it has to DETECT the darn threat first and detect it correctly to even begin to repair it. You cant repair what you cant see, just my 2cents.

In the latest av-comparatives test McAfee with Artemis enabled did well.

Nod32 is not very good in detection either.
Bitdefender detects and removes them. Maybe kaspersky is good to but it's a system hog.
