What do you mean; without the use of real-time malware monitor? If that is the case most here use virtualiazation, Sandboxie, Shadow Defender, etc.

My guess would be some system hardening, limited user account and using Firefox or Opera as a browser.

I prefer to go fully armored.

To me "full monty" would imply no third party software.

That pretty much leaves Windows defender\LUA\increasing settings in IE.

Only things that come from MS pre-bundled\installed or available from MS would constitute "full monty". IMO

A lot of gray area`s in the question.

If this means no AV or real time detection software, I protect my system with a default-deny security policy. The specific applications and processes I want to allow are whitelisted. The activities of each one and their ability to launch another process is also restricted to only what each needs to function properly. Internet access is restricted to only those apps that need it for normal usage. Web content is filtered with active content allowed only when needed. On my Win2K unit, apps exposed to the internet and those that open files from untrusted origins are isolated from the OS.

Yep, I mean not using any real time anti-virus / anti-spyware / anti-malware.

LUA with SuRun + SRP + no Autorun - then an on-demand scanner of choice for files that you're unsure about. I'd recommend Avira with heuristics on High (that's the highest setting).

I get embarrased running naked through the streets, I prefer a loin-cloth. Mine is made up of SRP in admin mode and Shadow Defender on 24/7.

My setup consists of some system hardening and chromium browser with dropped rights. I also have an image I can fall back on.
