wow another cheap lifetime license. Can you say DriveSentry. Damn, either give it away at start up, or charge a fortune like Prevx, to make you think it has to be good at that price.;)

Prevx is Good :) I don't know much about Total Protect. Has anyone tested their product? How long have they been in business? I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. They may have potential. Only time will tell.

No 9x/ME support? (I wonder if we old, very old OS users are becoming an overlooked majority. You know, like the very same people who haven't updated their Norton AV in the past 5 or 6 years.)

Element TotalProtect 2010 does in fact run on the older dos based windows family, that being the ME / 98 line, but it is not supported by Element Software.
You can run it on that OS but you cannot expect support from us if anything goes wrong. :P
However many components such as realtime protection, automatic pc tuneup and the firewall components do not work on 9X since they were only created for NT based operating systems.
Hope this helps.

It patches your windows registry and operating system in common areas that worms insert malicious code, essentially blocking any access that a virus may have to that part of the operating system, before your PC can even be effected. This is essential for xp users since they are left in the open, without Vistas god gift of UAC.
Any changes ETP makes to your system can be reversed by using the Rescue Center feature.

I installed Element TotalProtect 2010 and set all of the options it has and then started to test it. I couldn't get it to detect anything, I might be doing something wrong but I don't think so. After trying everything I have against it and getting no alerts I deleted it and reinstalled my regular protection. I don't believe that this software is ready for prime time yet.

I gave it a quick run on xp sp3 and here is what I didn't like.
1.The firewall.
a. It seems that you use the open source WIPFW (http://wipfw.sourceforge.net/index.html), but unless I missed it you do not mention it anywere in your software. and you do not include any help document about setting the firewall rules.
b. it does not support IPv6 Protocol
2. The uninstall process
Leaves behind 3 services.

Please check this page for a full list of viruses and procesess that TotalProtect detects and removes :
http://www.elementsoftware.co.uk/totalprotect/viruslist.html
Anything that Element TotalProtect can remove is listed there. Additionaly the virus definitions are updated daily, so running an update today would give you definitions that were released 1st September 2009.
Element TotalProtect has been in development since early 2006 (It was orignally named Element Protect, since it was just AV protection then, but now ETP provides much more functionalities.) Its the same technologies that has been in development since.

Another update-
The Element TotalProtect team have launched a new, free online scan service. You can use this free scan online to scan for spyware, viruses and other malicious software. The service runs the same way that other popular online scan tools run, such as HouseCall, OneCare etc.
However, it does not serve as an anti-virus replacement, but it is good if you are on the go and you need a quick scan!
The online scan requires a Windows XP or higher OS, and Internet Explorer 6 or above. Additionaly a 560KB framework component must also be installed prior to the scan in order for things to work smoothly.
You can run a free, online scan here: http://elementsoftware.co.uk/totalprotect/onlinescan.html
Thanks once more :)

Good Evening ! Let's spin a feel good moment about a young lad making good in the world. Sentiment aside and not withstanding a nineteen yr old has been presented the smarts too present us with a new anti virus product, especially at the mind altering price point of $6.99. Having been employed at an occupation where I ask credibility profiles of individuals who are less than credible, this aroused my interest immediately as too the possibility of misrepresentation of Element Total Protect and it's legitimacy. Maybe their might exist a happy ending, but as of this moment my gut check thinks not. Sincerely...Securon
