Great giveaways from Paragon of great software. Maybe other companies should learn something from them.
Info: I've already posted this thread at "software & services" as for significant number of people are visiting that thread.
Also many people may not be informed for moving of Paragon forums @ Wilders.
I've thinked that this deserves to be placed here and i hope that wouldn't be regarded as double-post.

Hi Creer,
Yes it's a hell a va good deal.
I don't know what is actual version of Paragon Drive Backup.
Maybe someone from Paragon staff can answer that?
Probably they are preparing for releasing of 2010 product line so that's why they are giving away these great products.

Looked like a good time to try this one in stead of True Image.
Unfortunatly I tried to install on both Vista and W7 but it looks like x64 is not supported. I get the massage: this OS is not supported.:-\

According to Paragon´s website at least Vista x64 is supported. If that is the case, then Windows 7 could stand a fair chance to work also.

The dl site is slow. Its says itll take 5 hour to dl the 87MB program.
I just used the free express 9.0 version and I love it.
I hope this is just as easy.
Will I need to uninstall the express version before I load the pro version?
Thanks

I just finished the download from the site you supplied... it took about 2 hours, and the product would not run... it asked for a product key and a serial number... and since none were supplies with the free download... I am either missing something very obvious, or it is not free?
Am I missing something here...?

It´s impossible to get the file downloaded from that site, the request for the file times out.

Weeeeeeell, the intention was good anyway and i don´t think we can blame Paragon for this. According to the site there´s at least 11877 persons that actually got the file ;D Or maybe not..........:argh:

True, but on their website there is a difference between 32 and 64 bit installers to download (trail version).
This advertise offer only downloads 1 installer, if you can get it downloaded. I had to try many times before I got through only to find out I can't use it.LOL.

So the free stuff doesn't work for x64 systems?
Oh well, guess I don't need to download it.
Back to Acronis for me! :D

Yes indeed the download site is too slow, even i haven't tried it.
I know when they give away Partition manager Pro, the site was down like some simulated bot net attack has happen.
I have got it from previous promotions.
That is one bad thing with vnunet offering only one download location and not more.
In future they may consider to upload the file to some popular site like rapidshare(i know that this sounds too weird) , and after period of time given for download, they can kill the download from rapidshare by deleting the file from there(or maybe to some others popular upload services).
Just my .02 cents.

I took me 5 hrs but I got it.
You'll need to run the app and when you get to where they ask for the serial# and product key, above that, there is a button "GET FREE SERIAL", click on the button, fill out the form and they will email you the info. A couple of post above has the screen shot .
It works just like the free express 9.0 but with all the features.
I uninstalled the express before I install the Pro just to play it safe.
GREAT PRODUCT!!! and I got it free. Can't beat that.

Hi Aigle,
For most people probably the free version will be satisfactory.
But it sure lacks some significant features(at least to me) as : Backup Compression, Backup Encryption, Backup to Backup Capsule.

Hi Carver,
Indeed those features look imporant to me too, as for you.
That's why i comment about it.
So for your comment for refering that freebies are good for average Joe user, i suppose that your comment above is assigned to Aigle and not for me.

I am using Paragon Drive Backup Professional (Free) and have a problem on my older computer that is running XP SP2. Drive Backup sees my external USB drive from within Windows but when I boot from the recovery disc it does not see it. Any way to fix this problem?
(On my newer computer running XP SP2, Drive Backup can see my USB drive both from within WIndows and when booting from the recovery disc.)

Hi bman412,
The Backup Capsule can only be created or reconfigured using the Windows installed version, or the Advanced WinPE Recovery CD. However, you can certainly backup to it and restore from it using Windows or either Recovery CD.
The WinPE CD is only available for purchased Professional Editions and above. Free Editions and Giveaways do not include this.
The Standard Recovery CD (Linux/DOS) will at least allow you to delete the capsule, but you must also perform Update MBR to remove the boot entries for it. View the following thread for more detail on correcting the master boot record: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=252474

Hello Firebytes,
The recovery media has 3 different modes:
"Normal" which is a Linux based has network and USB support
"Safe Mode" which Dos based - No network or USB support
"Low Graphics Mode" - Essentially a safe Dos mode (used for video compatibility issues) No network or USB support.
Assuming you selected the default "Normal Mode", the recovery disk didn't recognize your USB controller. Here are some suggestions:
You can try another USB controller if you have one.
Purchase a new USB card.
Take out the internal drive of your old XP machine and connect both to your new box and do the restore.
If you purchase any of our Drive Backup products professional and higher you get a WinPE Advanced Recovery CD which is Vista based and will definitely see your external USB drive. It also allows you to add drivers for network and RAID controllers on the fly as needed.
Note: WinPE requires 512mb of RAM or higher

OK, that explains it. I had to use safe mode on the one system as it couldn't handle normal mode for some reason. It's an older system and I think it doesn't have enough video memory or something to handle normal mode. I found another freeware disc imaging software that uses a Linux based recovery media that does work on it. I will continue to use Paragon on the other newer system. Thanks for the help.

Hello Aigle,
The Linux and DOS disks are on the same CD and ISO file. When you boot into the disk, normal mode is linux, and safe mode is DOS.
WinPE CD is a separate ISO and download inside your account (Professional and Server only).
Linux seems to boot up the quickest and by default offer the widest range of hardware support. DOS is quick but lack network, usb, and raid support. WinPE is essentially compatible with all hardware provided with drivers but takes the longest to load.
I hope that helped clarify things.

I prefer using WinPE. In my experience, the little extra time booting is more than made up for in the time saved doing a backup or restore. I usually get about 4GB/min. in WinPE (as in Windows). I also like the fact that it uses standard Windows drivers. In my particular case, I have various WinPE setups configured to boot from an internal drive so they load extremely quickly.
