After failing the PCFlank.com Browser Test, I have now disabled referrers. Is this a real risk to priviacy or not? Do you have send referrer enabled? Thanks!

I use the Refcontrol add-on with Firefox. Have it set to Forge. It sends the root site of what ever site\page I am visiting.
I did`t vote cause it is`t off but it is`t set at default on either.

I use RefControl as well and have it to forge /root).
There's a few websites I check out periodiocally concerning defence and intel - I quite often will have the referrer set to some obscure .cn website for these, just for a laugh :)

When a site requests a referrer from my PC, they see their own site.

A while ago ... a girl in my class at college visited a friends blog site directly from her unpassworded photobucket that contained some interesting photos. So yeah, I guess you have to be a bit careful with website owners (creepy friends) that can identify you personally.
I have Refcontrol. I use Forge command for default.

No one has answered this question yet. This is a good description of the referrer; HTTP referrer - Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_referrer). I personally don't consider it a real privacy hazard. As I already mentioned I use RefControl but my default setting is normal, except for third party request.

The referrer is one way your movements can be tracked. By itself, it only shows the site that you came from. Combined with tracking cookies, a much better picture of your web travels can be assembled.

Is this a real risk to priviacy or not? <== Privacy question yes - belonging in the other topics sub-section, no.
Conscientious of where I'm going, I don't find having it on much of an ordeal - my caches dumped on exit.

Yes it really makes a difference if you save cookies and cache from session to session, me I clear them out with the brower exits.

Disabling or spoofing referrer can help you be slightly anonymous on the net. Google analytics *and the likes* are always watching for patterns.
