If I was to get Windows 7, it'd more than likely be the Home Premium version.

Home Premium Here, if I do decide to buy. I don't see any advantage for a home user in any of the other versions... Why pay more?

Good Evening! Took advantage of MS Upgrade offer. Will be sent by Amazon.ca;and free shipping. No complaints, whatsoever! Home Premium the overwhelming choice! Sincerely...Securon

Home premium.
£45 seemed a decent price for retail license.

I wasnt gonna pay double the price for one or two feaures.

IF, I was to buy it, it would be Professional.

I'm quite happy with my Vista Ultimate (Ultimate is the only version available where I live), but objectively speaking Windows 7 Home Premium is probably the best in terms of value for money. I should also add that the Ultimate versions have an interesting feature (I haven't tried it though)which allows you to work in the language of your choice (to what extent I don't know), but considering the multicultural trend of big cities and some companies, it will certainly appeal to many people.

Home premium, in my mind the extra features of the others are bloat I do not need.

Not all editions of Windows 7 are included in the poll .

My current personal Vista is Basic edition , so if I were to upgrade to Windows 7 I would get Started edition . I use the OS for office stuff and surfing the Net and I don't need the extras of the other editions .

Have tested the beta and RC versions , so far I am not a big fan of Win7 , so I won't look at it again until SP1

Whenever I buy it or not, I will choose Home Premium (instead of vLite), which runs faster and Ultimate "features" can be replaced by more quality paid products.

Starter edition is missing

I read it's only a cheap edition for 'Africa', with the starter edition you get max. 3 applications at the same time :D

TOMxEU

3 apps limit does not apply to Windows 7 Starter anymore, MS wants it to be preinstalled on netbooks, because it is afraid, that Linux might take advatage of it.

Why did you write Africa with ' ' ?

I have Vista Basic edition and it is the onliest one I would buy . Yes , it is the cheapest one but it has everything I need . The same applies for Windows 7 and Starter edition.

Why should I pay for Ultimate edition when I don't need it and its extra feautures ? And what is wrong with Africa and African people ?!

All depends in which part of EU as Union or Europe as continent you live.
And yes, it's available in Europe.

As for poll i have voted Home Premium.

If i'm not mistaken Starter is not far from Home Premium (not true comparision), but only in Starter you can't play videos.

Windows 7 Starter is being sold to users on new netbook PCs only, so it will not ship in a retail version you can purchase individually. Unlike with Windows Vista, it will be sold worldwide to mainstream markets like the United States, and not to developing nations." }-

Too me the Wikipedia site gives more explanation between different versions of Win 7.

If I do decide to go to Windows 7 it would be the Home Premium edition.
Most likely I'd buy a new set up; hard drive, monitor, the works.

Thats why I prefer Ultimate because of the multiple language feature. The extra cost is worth it to me to get this functionality.

OK, i REALLY wanted to buy upgrade to Home Premium, BUT, i just found out that my beloved university decided to cover my faculty with convention with MS and i get Windows 7 Professional (accademic license) for FREE. ;D I opted for the 64bit version.

Downloading as we speak (although i won't install it immediately).

I won't be upgrading because my computer won't run it but it I were it would be just the Home Premium version. Nothing in the Professional or Ultimate versions that I would really need.

Best thing you can do is find a nice MS employee and buy it off him/her for 25 bucks, any which version :)

Yes , I just did a clean install even though I was running Vista .
Everything took exactly 23 minutes - installation , setting up username , etc . Didn't require a single driver . Very nice - just like the RC version

That was the only version they had available throught MSDN AA. ;D
They actually had both x86 and x64 flavours.

I'm in no rush, but when I make the move it will be to HP as I don't need the extra baggage of Pro/Ult for the family's PCs! However, at work we will most likely go with Ult.

Why pay more and why slow it up. Will it handle Office 2010 for the occassional letter or simple spreadsheet? I thought the netbook would make a nice light traveling companion when I am away from home.

It would have to be Ultimate as I would feel I'm missing out if I went for the lesser options. IT snobbery. heh heh
