Weight won't matter with a fast connect. Users on dial-up, less appreciative. A consideration we can be conscious of.

No it was Prish Image Resizer, don't no why I cant resize the image to achieve a legible result..
The best result I achieve is about 160KB if I knock down the weight the I have a smaller image.
Fiddled with it for a few hours...
I can't reproduce your results

I've got a suspicion you're unaware how to swap the output format. As an experiment follow my lead .... select "autosave" and "preview in editor" from it's drop-down. Take a random shot and settings'll open > autosave > jpg format > quality 80 > color subsampling. These last two you can trial & error for results. Now try a shot'a that thing you got in our fifth post.

PS - You're not gonna reproduce my results without the best. @ a forty-three meg install, she has no substitute!

From an "ease of use" standpoint, HoverSnap and this baby (http://www.midnightmonkey.co.uk/pics4mail.php) were the other reasonably cool standalones I liked. The former, simplicity king, the latter, jpg only, but with better than average results. No reason to fuss over needless adjustments. Dial in your preliminaries and let'er rip!

Here's an additional aspect you can make use of after uploading your image of choice. Hit "preview changes" 'cause you won't be able to see what you need to until that's taken care of. Now back under the main header "additional options," you'll find these tags to copy and paste where you see fit. This way you can add remarks below a given image.

I got some relatives that could really use that PIcs4mail..
They send HUGE pics thru the mail..megabytes for one little picture!

Hoversnap is a great one to use too and really easy.

Haven't tried Faststone but likin' the look of it...

Another one that is a little more involved is Irfanview...
but from what I have heard Faststone is just as good.

Wish I would have known about Faststone scroll capturing before my yahoo site went down.. bummer!

If taken for later use, you know, something where high resolutions important, then that Pics4Mail application would be perfect, provided their intentions don't involve "batching" these things. If nothing more than sharing quick, random shots amongst friends and relatives, their camera should have a sizing adjustment. You and I know digital cameras produce big FILES (http://www.backyardnature.net/digi-cam.htm), it's peeps on fast boxes with quick connects that don't correlate time with size.

Paint.NET, Photoscape (slow home page on dial-up) - review (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/freesoftware/fr/photoscape.htm) / portable (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1339) with reviews, Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13821) (screenies on this invasive site (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/picasa/ss/resizemultiples.htm)), Resize2Mail (http://www.resize2mail.com/), Windows Live Photo Gallery plus the onboard email apps are other avenues you could explore for'em - if YOU ;) spent more time on Win.

That's the rub, don't spend any time on Doze...

I will gather some pics and check them all out on Win.

Right now the resize2mail sounds perfect for
peeps that don't want to mess with a prog...they can resize, save and send!

I think peeps rarely bother to resize 'in cam', they send pics thinking they are going
to be the size they get at the photo shops- 3 x 5 usually.....

I used to love PIcasa too, but it's too invasive now.:dry:
(FYI: Supposedly you can still use the older versions and they don't send your info "home',
haven't used it in a couple years.)

GF, I use Photoscape as a quick, down and dirty, pic manipulator (I work with Macromedia Fireworks as well) and it's a great program! :thumb:

Thanks for that Pics4Mail link; some of my family members can use it to downsize their emails, if you know what I mean. ;)
