View Full Version : Could ESS be blocking Internet time?

Using ESS 3.0.684.0 with Vista Home Premium.
Something appears to be blocking the system's attempt to update the time by reference to the Internet. Every attempt to update the time with any of the servers listed in the time/calendar client produces the error message "The client fails sending out a request."
If it is the ESS firewall, is there a rule I can set to allow the time/calendar client the necessary access?
Many thanks.

Unfortunately , ESET doesn't listen to their clients enough and it has been suggested numerous times but who cares... It is very simple to edit the default rule they have created in ESS so that it allows this basic service .
Allow : Both (In and Out)
Local/Remote port : 123 (NTP)
Local - Application : %windir%\system32\svchost.exe
Currently this traffic is allowed only in the Trusted zone but in order to update the time , access to Microsoft servers (for example - time.microsoft.com) is required. Neither MS Servers nor anyone else is by default in the trusted zone ... A very simple change is needed and it has been suggested since v3 release . I am not a firewall expert but I think this rule will not post a security risk to people's machines/data
Allow : Both (In and Out)

To be allowed to access the Internet

Hello,
Your request to add a new default rule to the firewall to allow NTP traffic from the Windows Time service has been noted.
