Have you preordered windows 7?
please answer the poll state which version you preordered and why.
I preordered windows 7 Home premium because it has all the features i need and at the preorder price of £45 it seemed a good buy.

Yep, preordered Home Premium. The extra cost for Pro or Ultimate
wasn't worth it to me as Premium has everything I need.

No. Not even on Vista, let alone Win 7. (This computer is 7 years old and still with XP!)

No, and I won't, I'm very exited about Windows 7, but everything new *always* has teething problems. With software I'm usually ok with, but with the actual Operating System, I'd rather wait a few months for patches and such to come out.

That's how I feel as well. I always prefer to wait a bit just to see what transpires.
All in good time :)

I am planning on buying, but did not preorder it. I want to wait a bit after release and see how it goes. I was also confused about upgrade vs clean install options. I do NOT want to do an upgrade of a Vista install to 7. The only way I will run 7 is with a clean install from scratch. So I have taken a wait and see approach, although I am running the x64 RC now and have zero issues with it.

I'm quite happy with my Vista Ultimate(which I bought separately from my computer), and I'm not going to upgrade to Win7 Ultimate at the price they ask.

Since the release candidate software is running so smoothly, there may not be as much risk in pre-ordering the OS as some might think, at least in terms of technical issues.
One example, if the hardware/software is compatible with Vista, it usually runs under Windows 7 just fine.

I also preordered Premium for $50. Not sure yet if I'm going to keep or sell it.
I should have bought the professional version because of AppLocker and XP mode :(.

Pre-ordered premium and will install once I get it. Ran the beta and it worked fine. Will be installing 64-bit this time around though.

I preordered Premium, since I have been running Vista Premium & can't afford the extra $$ required for Professional or whatever. Savings gained by preordering seem good.
I was going to study choices further, but all of a sudden it was literally the final hour, so I pulled the trigger on Premium.

I still dont know why Home premium is limited to 16gb of ram.
i would of liked applocker and standard local security policy but two features isnt worth double the price.

Same here, but in my case WinXP Professional and a CD aimed at getting most performance out of the OS without sacrificing important parts of it. :) Most important thing is - it's still XP. ;)

Thanks for the tip, but 75€ is too much, You can get a download preorder from MS for 83€ (http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windows-7-Home-Premium-Upgrade/product/B0F9E641). Before it was from 35€ to 50€. Too bad ... for MS. ::)

On amazon the price for HP Box (not OEM) is: £64.99 (-57% discount) (without shiping costs)
I think it won't be cheaper this is probably the last chance to get OS with so huge discount.
EDIT:
I have read that this promo-prices will be to the end of this month (August), then prices will be higher :(

I pre ordered Home Premium version today from Amazon.co.uk. The price seems to be the cheapest in UK at the moment and is probably going to be the last chance *before launch* to get it at reduced cost. It does say on the site, but not in these exact words :P if pre order sales of Win 7 are slow, Amazon will reduce the price ... but I can't see that happening. £64.98 inc VAT & standard delivery it cost moi.
Having spent a while deciding which version to get, I can't really see me needing Professional or Ultimate versions - the only feature I have had to think hard about is the XP compatability mode that I won't have by default with Home Premium. I now use 3rd party tools for encryption and backup. So paying near enough £100 extra for the microsoft offerings in Professional and Ultimate ... just isn't worth bothering with.

OK, I think this is full version, not the OEM. Am I true? So I can transfer it on more than just one PC.
I will most probably use it in VM. I guess that MS EULA allows only pro and ultimate versions of Vista to be installed in VM. Any one knows what is the deal about Win 7 in this case?
Thanks

Hi Aigle,
Yes there is BOX version of Windows 7, not OEM. So you can transfer your 7 on more than one PC.
About VM - you are wrong here. Only Starter edition and Home Basic don't allow you to install 7 on VM.
Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate allows you to install on VM, just take a look here:

Windows 7 will have it's day but right now I have to stay with the clients who still use Windows XP Pro SP3 with Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2. Just two Qs.
1- I am in Saudi Arabia. Can I order from amazon.uk via credit card to get the key via e-mail?
2- Anyone knows bout XP mode in Pro version. I am thinking of going for Pro due to this. I think it will come as installed in MS Virtual PC inside Win7. Can it be used for malwaree testing etc just like VMware?
Too bad they did not include it in beta or even RC builds. No way for me to test it before I order. >:(

I don't think it's junk.... but then again, I don't think it's much different from Vista..... certainly not worth the price to upgrade. I am also pretty certain that one can't do a "clean install" with the upgrade disk either, which would force me to buy the full version for twice the price. No thanks.....

Caveat, if you decide to buy you need to reinstall the proper version.
-{ Quote: "Yes, I've tested Windows 7 in my VM, and I don't like it really. I'm sticking with Windows XP for at least another few years." }-
Yeah likewise, it's pretty easy to transform XP to look like Vista/7 to achieve the same cleaner look plus XP has all the functionality i need. Actually, i replace virtually all the core MS features and tools with third party ones anyhow.
MS really did make XP "too good".

I personaly like Windows 7 it is much faster than XP on my machine, more responsive, more stable (no BSOD so far).
Windows 7 has many drivers built-in/download from MS directly - no more searching for drivers.
And at last I also like eye-candy new W7 layout :)

I have XP on 2 computers and Vista on my favorite machine. I've tried Win7 for a while and liked it a lot. Having Vista, I won't get Win7 unless it is pre-installed on a new machine, I agree it isn't much different from Vista (only lighter).
For people who have used only XP, my suggestion would be to go with Win7 rather than Vista as it is lighter but still having all the features of Vista.

Better plan on January, I think that's when the RC starts shutting itself down every hour or so. It goes on like that till March, when apparently it dies altogether, but who wants to live with the shutdown stuff for 2 months?
