Use ImgBurn (free) and burn to 1/2 the rated speed of the media. Use good quality media, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim (made in Taiwan, don't know about India), any made in Japan, don't know about Ritek either. A Pioneer DVR-105 is pretty old but I have a DVR-106 I swear by.

Hi shell2909 and welcome at wilders. :)

It seems that your drive does not recognize the media inserted.

You must do a firmware upgrade.
-{ Quote: "Firmware Upgrade Ver. 1.33
This upgrade is not suitable for use on drives supplied in Computers by Medion/Aldi.
Caution! Once the drive has been updated to this version, the drive will NOT be able to be restored to an earlier firmware version." }-
You can download the firmware here
http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/support/support/software.html#fdvdwriter
or use the following direct link
http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/download.jsp?dir=/files/support/dvrup&filename=R5ta133.exe

Important!!!
Before updating your firmware:
1. Reboot your pc
2. After rebooting, close all the applications, and especially any security application (Antivirus,Firewall, antispyware, security suites, hips, etc. Make sure that their active scanners are disabled!)
3. Make sure that there is no cd/dvd disk in your pioneer drive.
4. Run the program for the firmware update and follow the instructions of the program.

hope it helps,
Panagiotis

I'll just suggest you to ditch Nero 7.
This brings memories back.
I have had this problem all the time with Nero 7, at the time when was released.
I have seen at friends same thing. And i have heard from million of people about problems with Nero 7.

Just change to other burning tool, preferable free.

I also had the same problem with Nero 7 and wasted many DVD's because of that. I switched for CD BurnerXP and also updated my drivers. It works fine now. :)

Hi;

I also used Nero 7 and OH BHOY it wasted a lot of DVD's when I used it. Even the newer Nero 8 has problems. I find that 10% of successful burns were with errors mostly on dvd movie-copy I burned. I now use Imageburn and Roxio.

Hello All!

For the reasons in the previous comments about Nero 7 and 8, I have stayed with Nero 6.6 to present, running it on XP Pro, as it has NEVER given me a problem.

Alas, XP Pro is getting "long in tooth" and . . .

My concern is that when I run the Windows 7 compatibility check, Nero 6.6 shows as incompatible. Nonetheless, if and when I install Windows 7 [I skipped Vista, thank you] I am going to install Nero 6.6 "to see if it works".

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,
Bob

I have used pretty much all versions of nero and have had no trouble at all. As a matter of fact I find that all my burned disks work with any windows operating system. Where as a lot of people seem to be having trouble exploring their CD/DVDs from other operating systems using the windows burning program. With Vista I have Nero 9, I do not think the earlier issues of Nero will work in vista without some serious tweaking.
robtlmiller are you trying to attempt burning by using Nero "startsmart" or do you use Nero burning rom?
I find I am more successful using Nero Burning rom instead of burning a disk in the "startsmart" format. See if that will work for you.
I certainly hope it will.
