What’s New in Firefox 3.5
Firefox 3.5 is based on the Gecko 1.9.1 rendering platform, which has been under development for the past year. Firefox 3.5 offers many changes over the previous version, supporting new web technologies, improving performance and ease of use. Some of the notable features are:
Available in more than 70 languages. (Get your local version!)
Support for the HTML5 <video> and <audio> elements including native support for Ogg Theora encoded video and Vorbis encoded audio. (Try it here!)
Improved tools for controlling your private data, including a Private Browsing Mode.
Better web application performance using the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine.
The ability to share your location with websites using Location Aware Browsing. (Try it here!)
Support for native JSON, and web worker threads.
Improvements to the Gecko layout engine, including speculative parsing for faster content rendering.
Support for new web technologies such as: downloadable fonts, CSS media queries, new transformations and properties, JavaScript query selectors, HTML5 local storage and offline application storage, <canvas> text, ICC profiles, and SVG transforms.

FF3.5 is available by clicking "Check For Updates" in the Help folder. I tried using the download here and after downloading the .Exe file it said "File Corrupt" when I tried to do the install. Then I tried the Check for updates, and it went smooth. :)

stefan waelti, thanks for the heads-up! As twl845 mentioned, I downloaded it via Check for Updates and the only add-on that was not compatible was Redirect Remover.
Otherwise, working very smooth! ;D

Seems the official release is identical to the 3.5 RC3 checking the digital signature. Running here no probs too. Only add-on that wasn't compatible was Reget Deluxe download manager but I'm now using Downthemall which seems just as good and it's free!

If you right click on the toolbar and click customize you'll find what your looking for, the Activity Indicator, just drag it to where you want it.

The tab creation icon has been brought near to the tab after along time. Its still the slowest browser, when compared to IE,opera, chrome .Its improvements in firefox 3.5 hasn't had any significant impact in reducing the cold boot time.I am expecting "paste and go" feature in firefox soon.

You'd have thought they'd have given us the option of putting a button on the Toolbar Thingy for - Private Browsing
Rather than us having to go look for it in - Menu .. Each and every time we want to use it ::)

Zeena, unless I'm reading it incorrectly, the Location Aware Browsing feature is a good one because Firefox will warn you, by default, if any site asks for your geographical location. According to Mozilla:

Mozilla slates first Firefox 3.5 patch-{ Quote: "By Gregg Keizer
Computerworld - Mozilla will patch the just-released Firefox 3.5 in the next few weeks to stamp out several bugs that went unfixed in the final version of the browser, the company said Tuesday.
Firefox 3.5.1, which Mozilla intends to deliver in mid-to-late July, will include fixes for at least three bugs and "topcrashes," the term the company uses to describe the frequently-reported crashes. Like many applications, Firefox asks users to report crashes by displaying a prompt after the browser goes down." }-Article. Zeena, perhaps I should not have used the word warn, maybe alert or caution would have been a better choice, nevertheless, I do like this feature because it lets me know the sites that are or will be using this geolocation trend.
And since, in the words of Mozilla (I do take them at their word. They haven't shown me any nefarious moves, yet): Location-Aware Browsing is always opt-in in Firefox 3.5. No location information is ever sent without your permission, whether the function is ON or OFF, it makes no difference. While I respect your decision, it's just my opinion, I could be wrong. ;)

Hopefully one of the apparent bugs they're fixing (and I haven't heard anyone else mention having this problem) has to to with very poor DNS lookup and handshaking. After upgrading, every click results in a very slow (10 secs. or more) "looking up ..." phase, quite often followed up by an equally slow "waiting for ....".
I have to assume the problem's in Firefox itself and not "out there" somewhere, because when I gritted my teeth and tried again with IE-8 (with tabbing disabled) it went smooth as silk. I've got all of FF's anti-phishing stuff, and the related new features, turned off, so I don't think they're the problem.

Maybe I am missing something here or I just don't get what you are wanting to do with the one tab but why not just set Firefox to where it doesn't even show the tab bar when you only have one website open. You get back a little more screen real estate that way and you can easily add a button for opening another tab alongside your other navigation buttons for when you are going from only one open website to two.

For what it is worth. Initially did the update to 3.5 via the built in updater.
Encountered some slight quirks. To numerous and odd to remember or get into.
Did a complete uninstall. Followed by a manual deletion of any remaining (hidden) :lurking: files\profiles\reg entries.
A fresh install + add-ons, also reinstalled VLC and Flash. Working like a charm now. Seems a bit snappier as well. Perhaps due to the new build, perhaps just the clean install. :doubt:

No need for an add-on if you've got a 3-button mouse: any page can be opened in a new tab using the middle button instead of the left button. Click on the Home Page icon on the Navigation Toolbar using the middle button and the home page will open in a new tab.

Anyway, I/we just want to exit all opened pages but not the browser - then maybe leave the computer for awhile. So I just prefer a blank page with nothing loaded, loading or reloading.
With Opera it's similar, last opened page can be closed & leaving blank tab.

-{ Quote: "Guys, I don't get it. Why would any site ask a browser for the computer location? Knowing where you're surfing from is simply communicated by your ip address, right?" }-
This is Mozilla's definition of their Location-Aware Browsing:-{ Quote: "
Websites that use location-aware browsing will ask where you are in order to bring you more relevant information, or to save you time while searching. Let’s say you’re looking for a pizza restaurant in your area. A website will be able to ask you to share your location so that simply searching for “pizza” will bring you the answers you need... no further information or extra typing required.
Or, if you’re mapping out directions to get somewhere, the website will know where you’re starting from so all you have to do is tell it where you want to go." }-
But what concerns me the most, and why I want Firefox to let me know when I have reached a site that asks for this type of info, is Mozilla's accuracy statement:
-{ Quote: "Accuracy varies greatly from location to location. In some places, our service providers may be able to provide a location to within a few meters. However, in other areas it might be much more than that. All locations returned by our service providers are estimates only and we do not guarantee the accuracy of the locations provided. Please do not use this information for emergencies. Always use common sense." }-
A few meters? Yes, it's bad enough that my IP address can reveal either the closest server or in some cases, the town where I live, but now is a few meters? No way!
Eice
July 8th, 2009, 10:02 PM
Location-aware browsing just provides an API for websites to determine your location using several data sources, your IP being one of them. That's it.

Zeena, I believe we have differences of opinions. I want to know if a Web site uses this feature and you don't want to ever know. There is no right or wrong decision here since Firefox lets their users choose, so you choose one way, I choose another.
Firefox is not using its own technology, instead, they are using Google Location Services. Because Google wants to be the end all these days (browser, OS, email, etc.), it behooves me to know what Google is up to. This statement in Google Location Service in Mozilla Firefox Privacy Policy (http://www.google.com/privacy-lsf.html) bothers me quite a bit and it's the main reason why I want this feature on:

The Only Thing I Can Think Of...
You wouldn't by any chance have Firefox set up to.. Clear History When Firefox Closes .. Have You?
I've been playing around with my igoogle page quite a lot in the last few days.
And although through a problem with the way igoogle works .. Rather Than Firefox!
I Have However Discovered...
That the way Firefox 3.5 handles Clearing Recent History and in particular Cookies ... Is very different to the old Firefox 3 :what:
Quite a bit more complicated than it used to be ???
Have You Seen These...

Might Help! ;)
PS.
Another One For You!
Scroll to the bottom of the page - Here : http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Remembering+passwords
And also take a look at those extra links ;)" }-
I have it set to always remember history. I am using Ccleaner, latest verstion, and it may have a bug that clears history when using FF 3.5. I have asked on their forum, but have received no reply.

Another Thing You Might Want To Check...
You know that you said.. " I have it set to always remember history."
Well I've Noticed...
If You - Clear Recent History - Yourself!
From.. Menu - Tools - Clear Recent History
Depending on what options you last picked.. e.g.. Last Hour - Today - Everything etc.
It can change your settings from... Always Remember History - To - Use Custom Settings For History
So just check that your settings haven't changed all by themselves ;)
I'm Presuming this must be a Bug in Firefox 3.5 .. Don't Know! :-\

LOL ;D .. Me Too! ;)
Well! .. Apart from the two flamin Cookies that seem to go AWOL every time I log in and out of iGoogle >:(
How Stupid Is This...
Google Says - " Sign in to save your iGoogle Page "
But what Google doesn't say - " Then sign out to lose your iGoogle Page " :argh:
A few years ago.. I'm sure I managed to find a way around the silly problem of the vanishing iGoogle
So that I could have an.. iGoogle Page - Signed In .. & .. iGoogle Page - Signed Out!
Just wish I could remember what it was ::)
That was using IE though .. Not .. Firefox :-\
