View Full Version : delete messages on server?

I usually retrieve my emails via POP via an email program. Recently I am working at two locations and need to check emails at both ends. My preference is to continue to have everything on my main pc and only use the other location for checking and quick responses.
I know the difference between POP and IMAP and am familiar with Webmail - I am confused with the config in my email programs with respect to downloading emails from the server.
My intention was to download at my prime location as before with "delete from server" but to set up the secondary location as "leave on server". However this does not seem to work reliably. Perhaps this relates to the sub-option "until I permanently delete them" (ie the messages). When and how would I use this option? I just tried to test this with webmail by receiving the email in my normal email program, then deleting it in there did not do anything in my webmail program (which I suppose mirrors the server).

Any ideas?

In order for this to work, I believe you would have to set your email program to retrieve all messages, not just all unread messages.

Have you looked into using the email forwarding feature of Gmail? I believe that you could set Gmail to forward email from your regular email account to Gmail, and then just use Gmail at both of your locations.

Would Pop Peeper (http://www.poppeeper.com/) work for you?

Mr Brian,

I know that many people use Gmail this way but I am a bit old-fashioned. While I use Gmail privately, I would not want to use it to store all my business emails. I understand that all emails are routed through open loops on the net but at least once I receive it, it's on my box. Not sure how some of my customers would feel if all their emails were stored on Gmail.

Ronjor, not sure about this one but I will have a look.

Thanks to both of you.
