Thank you pegas...yes I know NIS2011 is fine with Prevx. I'm totally unsure
what might be causing this...perhaps Mamutu? All the best. Hopefully TH or Joe
will help me later. Maybe I should send a scan-log in the meantime?

A scan log would be helpful definitely. It can reveal a lot of to Prevx engineers. If a log won't be enough, they (PrevxHelp) can suggest you a remote session to debug problems. I have had a few sessions with 100% success in debugging.

Got a reply from Prevx support this afternoon, 24hr turnaround excellent, and.....in as much as I can tell, all is fixed!! Also scan has improved, was sometimes slowing at 24/25%, and analyzing scan results is now virtually instantaneous...it's lovely! So, I'm compelled to borrow a famous refrain(hope
he doesn't mind)...Prevx Rocks!!! :thumb: ;D :thumb: ;D Thanks Prevx!!

So the key question is.... why exactly did they have you do? Because many of us are having the same issues you are. Thanks.

I don't know precisely STV0726, but it definitely made a difference when I followed their instructions. Only Joe can sort this out finally for you I feel, have
you had a remote session? Not everyone wants to take that path, and one can
only accept that issues like you're experiencing shouldn't be happening.
Got to say that I'm not convinced that logging in from sleep mode is totally ok
yet, but user switching is definitely ok for me now.
P.S. Sorry I misread thought "have to do" not "have you do". All I did was scan, reboot, then I ran a few more scans as both Admin and user.
I could see difference immediately, I'm not lying, why should I? But also I think that scan smoothness/speed decreases in a few days. But
can definitely switch user ok now..splash screen etc.

When I right click a single file, then select scan with Prevx 3, no scan is initiated.
Instead, I am presented with an option to run that file.

This is an aberration in our right click scanner as it stands today. It is changed in Prevx 4 but right now, if you actually click 'Run', it will run the scan, not the file (try it with a legitimate program downloaded online :))
Alternatively, if you click Properties, you can click 'Unblock' and that will let you scan it without a prompt.

I have a problem running ‘Prevx’ & ‘Stardock Window Blinds’ (latest version) together. Running Vista (up to date) on a new DELL 4 core PC/Vista, 4GIG RAM, 2 TB storage space, ‘GeForce 220’ graphics. After a few minutes on the web parts of the taskbar, clock etc. gradually will disappear in a few minutes. This occurs using both Chrome 9x dev channel, but also with v7 stable (9 dev my default browser) & ‘IE 8’/’Firefox’/’Opera’ – ‘Firefox’ & ‘Opera’ are not installed I just installed them for testing this issue then imaged back.
I have run ‘Stardock Window Blinds’ for some years with a variety of AV’s/A-Malwares without any issues. The only program that causes this problem & has ever caused a problem is ‘Prevx’ – Latest version. I also have ‘Stardock Icon Packager’ running without issue.
As I like ‘Window Blinds’ so much I have sadly removed ‘Prevx’ & reverted to ‘Malwarebytes’, ‘Super Anti-Spyware’ & ‘Eset Smart Security’. I have tried disabling all other malware programs, & various services taking several hours trying just about everything I can think of with no results. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hello,
I haven't used Window Blinds in some time but haven't heard of other complaints recently with it. However, could you possibly try lowering the SafeOnline configuration from Maximum to High by clicking Configure next to SafeOnline Browser Security on the front screen of Prevx, and then clicking the slider bar over one to the left? It's possible that SafeOnline is blocking the rendering of window components because Window Blinds will have to access the screen to do so. After saving the changes, reboot your PC and hopefully the screen will return to normal.
Let me know your results! :)

Hello.
Serious problems with Prevx.
I believe Prevx is an innovative product.
But I am having serious troubles and the support is poor.
The messages from the prevx support page with detailed description are below.
Very serious problem:
1. For maybe a week, I've been having strange bugs with my WinXP (SP3) that I never had before: the caracters were not displayed on the screen, WL TRAY (related to wi-hi) would shut down and would not restart pointing to permission errors. I dealt with it by restarting the system.
A couple of days ago, I observed erratic behavior by Prevx: during startup of my Window XP (SP3), I had a Prevx dialog box that was proposing me to start installation process by configuring Prevx options. This was strange because Prevx was already installed and worked for many months.
I thought that there was an update of Prevx that required a reinstall and that did not work well. I proceeded with the installation along the steps suggested in dialog boxes. At the end though, Prevx would not take my licence number.
So, I wrote to you my previous support request a couple of days ago which was about the licence number not being accepted.
2. Yesterday, I had problems with wi-fi again and had to restart. Again, during start up, a Prevx dialog box started to pop up and disappear erratically.
After system started and I logged in as Administrator, I tried to uninstall Prevx from Program-Prevx-Uninstall Prevx. It did not work and I kept getting Prevx dialog box popping up.
I downloaded the uninstall tool from your web site prevx.com and used it. No popping up any more.
3. This morning, I again had problems with wi-fi. Some as described above.
I tried to restart but the system would not shut down. So I switched the system off by continuously pressing the "off" button.
When system started, I could not log in to my Administrator account: the mouse and the keyboard would freeze when I try to type in my password.
System restore, restarting in safe mode did not worked so far.
I could log in to a Windows account that was not protected by a password, but the mouse, the keyboard and ctrl+alt+del buttons did not work.
In the other non-administrator Windows account that I could log in to, Prevx "configure install" box was erratically popping up. This, despite the fact that I removed Prevx before from my Administrator account.
Your urgent help is required!
---
Prevx support responded with a template message asking to send a log file. Prevx should be embarrassed. I write that I can not log in into Windows, I can not run any program, including Prevx.

Hello,
Sorry to hear that you've had a less-than-positive experience so far with Prevx. Could you try reinstalling Prevx and then immediately uninstall it? This will ensure that all Prevx components are removed. After this, reboot your PC and it would probably be best to run without Prevx for a day or two to ensure that the issues have subsided.
Once you're confident that everything is stable again, can you try reinstalling Prevx but disable SafeOnline after installing by clicking Configure next to SafeOnline Browser Security on the front screen of Prevx and then clicking the On/Off button? This could potentially affect browsing so I'd like to rule it out if possible.
Let me know your results!

Whenever possible (or in Prevx 4?) it may be worth working on the localised PREVX versions like the Italian one. The text is cut or unreadable on the main window. Also parts are not translated (e.g. protection of credentials pop-up). This has been going on since I know PREVX :)
For example, see screenshot below (resolution 1920x1080, but it happens also on different resolutions).

The Italian version (and all other translations) are being completely redone for Prevx 4 as the GUI allows for better spacing for languages with longer spellings :)

How can he be expected to try reinstalling Prevx and/or uninstall it, if he can NOT boot ?

Interestingly i had these very SAME problems a few days ago >:( in here - http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=286297
Even though i had installed another app at the time, due to the above i'm wondering if my problems are related in some way/s ?

Joe is silent about most important question : Will Prevx remain as standalone or not ???
That silence only means that it's not going to be standalone and I don't need Webroot BS :thumbd:

It looked like he was able to boot into one user account:

I still haven't heard anything further on this case but would certainly be interested in hearing about the results.

I've said this several times already - our goal for Prevx 4 is to have it less than 500KB for the entire product.
-{ Quote: "Joe is silent about most important question : Will Prevx remain as standalone or not ??? " }-
I've also answered this - Prevx 4 will exist as its own product. Whether it ends up saying "Webroot" on it, I'm not sure, but it will be the same underlying product. We're not discontinuing the Prevx brand and we're continuing all development of Prevx 3 and 4 as we have been doing.
The primary delay at the moment is patent applications and various other intellectual property pieces that need to be finished before anyone can see the product. Our goal is still early 2011 for the beta but I don't know for certain when the patent applications will be finished so that could potentially push it back a bit from where we would have liked.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the Facebook version of Prevx SafeOnline icon on my computer is now always green when I go to amazon.com. And that's even if I'm not logging in and using the HTTPS protocol. And it's been like that for several weeks now.

I understood the gist of what CloneRanger was saying, however, I must say that a picture speaks more than a thousand words. ;)
However, I still don't understand why certain sites are 'Pre-Configured' in the first place. Was there/is there any benefit in having amazon.com Pre-Configured with all that protection in the first place...and is there any benefit in having the other sites Pre-Configured with all that protection?

Yesterday I just bought and installed Prevx 3.0 with the Safe Online - whatever that is - and didn't do anything at all to the settings - left them all to whatever their "default" settings are as I know nothing technical and dared not fiddle. And today all kinds of weird things are happening. It changed my display resolution. Go figure. It somehow started an unscheduled ESET Smart Security Suite 4.2 scan. Say what? I'm afraid I am chest deep in doo doo here. Innocent, naive, ignorant, trusting stupid little ole me. I believed the website when it said it was light-weight and unobtrustive and made to work alongside 99.9% of AV and security suites. Also, in the ESET forum I see many happy and satisfied thousands who use it. So why not me, right?
I'm scared to death now and don't know how get control of my `puter back. Who knows what is going to happen next? Egad - I shudder to think of it now. I downloaded and installed it straight from the Prevx Home Site - http://www.prevx.com/ (http://www.prevx.xom) - just to make sure it was a safe and clean d/l and install.
I certainly do not want to have to give it up and cancel it as it is so highly touted. I like the idea of the extra protection and we all NEED that. I don't have a virus or anything like that. Not unless Prevx gave me one :argh: which I very much doubt.
Desperately + gratefully welcome any and all replies, assistance, guidance, suggestions, recommended configurations I should do and anything other words of wisdom by the great brilliant techie brains here.
One thing though, I will need step by step help since I am technically-challenged. Sorry about that.
Also an important question: Has anybody noticed that it has slowed down their `puter at all? A tiny bit? A little? Somewhat? Significantly? Need to know so that I can reduce the number of surprises I am afraid await me until I get this Prevx situation settled to play friendly with my ESET and O/S and whatever else I should or need to do.
My O/S info is down below.

Hello,
I haven't the slightest idea how Prevx could have changed your screen resolution or started an ESET scan... Prevx doesn't change anything within ESET and doesn't manipulate the screen in any way. It may be worth seeing if ESET blocked a Prevx component if your signatures are outdated but I haven't heard of any user having an issue like this.
You mentioned that you then downloaded it straight from the homepage - could you let me know where you download it from before? We do not host our executables anywhere else besides our homepage so it's possible you downloaded a fake version of Prevx which was causing you problems.

Looks like I got a worm or 2 from Adobe Download Manager (whatever the heck that is) - Please Advise because they are still there. I did not tell Prevx to clean, delete, quarantine or do anything yet because that is what I assumed you wished of me.
If I do have 2 worms, then how come ESET/Nod32 has not caught and quarantined them? This is a drop-dead very serious question.
I pray it is soon as I cannot tolerate all the crazy things my `puter is doing. I am losing things too - like EMAIL and sub-folders in my EMAIL program. Can you imagine? :argh:
So, I know you are busy but please hurry if at all possible and thank you very much.
I never had an Adobe Download Manager before. Don't even know how I got this one. Do I need one? Me thinks not. I want to uninstall it with my Revo but will wait until you get back to me.
If memory serves, very recently Secunia was all over the Internet screaming about major and mucho vulnerabilities with Adobe. I would do my Secunia PSI scans and it would always come out with 4 vulnerabilities with NO SOLUTIONS. All 4 were Adobe. Go figure.

The pre-configured websites receive full protection even in just the trial version, so, users can receive protection while shopping on Amazon or entering their details into Cleverbridge (Prevx's payment provider) or if on a government website. We chose this handful of websites to allow users to see what SafeOnline can provide them, and we also allow one additional website to be manually configured.
Once on the paid version, however, the pre-configured websites don't add any additional protection over the default HTTPS* checking.
Hope that helps! :)

This was strange because Prevx was already installed and worked for many months. " }-
This doesn't appear to have been resolved and, as I have experienced the same install Prevx prompt a couple of days ago, I am very curious as to what might be going on...
I have a multi-user XP system, and for some time now we have experienced an issue where, upon switching users, the Prevx tray icon disappears (and Prevx scanning popups discontinue). When this happens, if you view Windows task manager, you'll see Prevx running on username "System" but not on the logged in user. I used to be able to stop the process in Task Manager and then Prevx would start up and run properly, but now Task Manager says that "handle is invalid". So, now the only way to get Prevx running as expected is to restart the computer (then Task Manager shows 2 Prevx' running: one on System and one on the logged-in user)
I disabled "fast user switching" in XP (as advised on this forum) but the weird disappearing tray icon behavior persists. Now, this install notice...
Any advice or followups on these issues? Thanks, mimib

Could you possibly try lowering your self protection settings from Maximum to Minimum and reboot to see if this corrects the issue? It may also be worthwhile verifying that you are using the newest version - 3.0.5.220 - as this should have corrected the issues.
Let me know your results!

Could you try disabling Prevx's realtime protection and see if the error still occurs? Firefox has recently put out a large update so it is possible that the error could be from Firefox and not from Prevx.

I have a license for SafeOnline only so I don't believe I have real-time protection.
I really like the program but this message is annoying.

Thanks for the quick reply. I already have self protection set to minimum and am using 3.0.5.220 and am still experiencing the "missing tray icon after switching XP users". (haven't seen the install message again since it happened the first time) If it helps, I cannot access Prevx in anyway when the tray icon is missing -- even if I go to start/programs and try to start it that way. The only indication that Prevx is running is the System user listing in Task Manager processes. --mimib

The SafeOnline edition of Prevx does include a real-time scanner. You can configure (disable) it via the main GUI.

I assumed you were using Firefox 4 beta :) We're just trying to diagnose what could be happening - it may be worth uninstalling Prevx entirely to check if it is Prevx or if it is just Firefox showing a warning.

Could you try reinstalling but turn off SafeOnline via the Configure page with the On/Off button and see if this fixes it?

Around 1/4 new tabs I open in Google Chrome fail to work (a new tab opens but will not load any web pages). Through trial and error I've pinned the problem down to Prevx SafeOnline.
My system:
Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
Comcast Norton SS 4.3.0.5
Google Chrome 8.0.552.237
ClearCloud
Initially I had through EMET might be causing the problem. But it persisted even after uninstallation. I've found that turning off Prevx ensures every new tab loads.

That sort of contradicts a statement I received from Prevx support today. I had emailed them and sent a scan log because the "Prevx Tab" was intermittently disappearing from Chrome on my system. I received the following reply.
-{ Quote: "Hello,
The Prevx 3 Chrome integration is imperfect in that sometimes the tab falls behind the browser. We are reassessing this and will be correcting the behavior in Prevx 4, due out to beta in the near future, but in the meantime, you are still receiving protection in the background.
Regards,
Prevx Support" }-
I took that reply to mean that even though there are some anomalies in its implementation, Prevx was still protecting my browsing. Are you saying otherwise? Thanks.

Well maybe in the back ground but http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1785860&postcount=6 I belive the last version that was fully supported was V6! But PrevxHelp will give his comments!

This is correct - Chrome is indeed still protected even though the tab may not show all the time (due to graphical implementation difficulties).

This is the first time in 13/14 years I have ever had a problem with Opera and it would seem that Opera.dll in 11.01 has rendered my browser completely useless through a false positive from Prevx.
There is a thread here which has already been closed:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=1823674
I do know of several others who are also experiencing the same. I've re-installed it with still the same issue.
Interestingly this is on my work Vista PC, my Win7 laptops are unaffected as yet and I haven't tried it out on a new Win7 PC as yet.
Do I have to assume it's totally broken and unrepairable?

Prevx refuses to start with Windows, no matter what.
I have to manually run it, and it starts with its protection always disabled -- have to click on "enable monitoring" every single time.
How can I force it to start with Windows?

Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling from an administrative account and select the option to install with a randomized filename pre-install? It's possible that the Prevx components were not properly installed or that malware blocked part of the installation.
Thanks!

Issue with tray icon
Hello
I detected that in my system (windows 7 32 bits) where I have two accounts with administrative rights when I log off from the active account and log on the other account the icon doesn't show up in the tray.
Switching accounts the tray icon shows correctly.
What can be done here?
I only have the Agnitum firewall along with Prevx.

Today I was unable to reproduce the issue. Whenever I log off and on the tray icon reapears.
In fact I see two processes (one in system and the other in the user's account).
