I have just started a 30 day trial of Kaspersky Mobile Security, and it seems good. I just wondered if there are any free antivirus, or Firewalls out there, or is this my best option.
I've never before bothered with security for my phone, but after getting one I actually like (I normally get free PAYG ones), now surf the internet frequently with, so need some permanent security.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I installed KAV trial also but all i got were alerts for benign messages( like SMS containg any links etc will be alerted).
It has Symbian OS and I am not sure if there are any Sombian OS malware in the wild. I doubt that we need an AV for an symbian mobile phone or even otehr mobile phone OSes. Anyone has practical experience?
Thanks

I have got a Nokia 5800 which I really like. I have been using the internet, just playing around with it, installing new apps, etc. Thats why I feel the need for some security. There is some nasty malware aimed at Symbian based OS, and I am worried about security, especially when downloading 3rd party applications and surfing the net.
Kaspersky does give a lot of alerts, which can be annoying if it asks whether to add a withheld number to my black or white list, as sometimes I do actually want the call, but wouldn't want to whitelist permanently. I can't see any ignore settings for this, apart from having to press skip every time a private number calls me.

Thanks for that. I have bookmarked for future reference, as it doesn't support my model yet.

I never even heard of a FW for a mobile phone.

I would have preferred a free one, but due to not being able to find anything for this phone, will have to go with paid. :(
My options as far as I can see are:
Kaspersky Mobile Security £19.99
Norton Smartphone Security £19.99
(I can only see OS 9, Series 60 v3 in the supported list. I need V5. It does state "list does not include all devices supported by Norton Smartphone Security")
NetQuin £?
(I can't see where you do pay for it (as there is just a download file when I clicked on any of the links to test, and no mention of payment anywhere), but my phone is not listed in the drop down menu, and I can't see any mention of any support on their site, so will have to give this a miss for now.)
F-Secure Mobile Security £29.95! :o
Thanks for your suggestions. If you know of any other good antivirus, whether paid or free, I would be most grateful. I could always keep doing free trials.;)

If you are going for paid, you should also check out S-Mobile. They have been creating products for mobile only and its much more optimized than some other products.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't state 5th edition for the trial and is slightly more expensive than I'd have liked, but it is a complete solution. I've bookmarked. Worth looking into.

An antivirus is pointless without the updates. I think the free trials are my best option for now, at least I'll have a few months of free AV protection. Thanks again for your comments.

I talked of trials not to use them as solely a way of protection but just to select one to buy, if u like it ofcourse.

I will eventually buy one. I just didn't want to just get one without knowing what else was out there, also I wanted to get a good one inexpensively (or free if possible). I have an 18 month phone contract, so after approx 5 months of free update (trials), I will choose a years paid subscription out of the best. ;)
