CSAV officially released 4.71.0 version !

Today Command Software AntiVirus officially released 4.71.0 version.

What's new:

"A unified Microsoft® Installer (MSI) installation for all Microsoft Windows® platforms resulting in a CSAV graphical user interface (GUI) which will now look and behave the same on all 32-bit Windows platforms.
It is now possible to configure all settings for CSAV and upcoming products that will run on Windows 32-bit platforms using a single method (which is simple and secure). This simplified update model for both enterprise and end users mean that you will no longer need to get separate updates for each platform. A single directory can contain the latest product, component, and definition files. *Please note that for this release we will continue to populate and support the current distribution directory structure for non-CentralCOMMAND legacy users.
The UPDATE DEFFILES button has been changed to UPDATE NOW. This feature has been redesigned for use by the single user only. Single users can now update virus definition files, components, and full product by clicking the UPDATE NOW button.
CSAV now includes a plugin for Microsoft(r) Outlook(r). This plugin scans messages and attachments of incoming and outgoing mail for viruses.
The Dynamic Virus Protection (DVP) report program now has an improved interface and support for Windows XP fast user switching.
We have improved support for Unicode and other languages which has resulted in a newly released Chinese (Mandarin) version of CSAV".

Based on your knowledge do you think that F-Secure is better than Command AV?
Like I know both use F-Prot scanning engine, but F-Secure also uses AVP and Orion engines.

Does this mean that F-Secure is by ALL MEANS a greater virus scanner and trojan detector because of its multiple modules into one framework?

i.e f-secure detects basically all the virii
avp scanning engine better detects and aids in detection of trojans

When it comes to ITW viruses Detection Command AV has advantage over F-Secure.

When it comes to Trojan/Backdoor detection F-Secure(AVP engine role) has advantage over Command AV. ( Not big though)

Both products are excellent on ZOO virus detection.

Both products got good code analyzer.

Command AV uses less system resources

F-Secure is updated daily
Command AV is updated twice a week( daily when needed)

F-Secure costs $80
Command AV costs $56 in the USA(in Europe 100 euros)

Both products got simple GUI.

Command AV is much faster(little behind NOD32) then F-Secure(multiplied engines).

why do you say that command AV has advantage in detecting ITW virii over F-Secure, when command AV has integrated F-Prot module as well?

Only portions from f-prot are kept. Most of the code is rewritten! Especially in 4.71 version,. CSAV uses Virus signatures from Frisk(f-prot) plus they are adding their own!
That's y u got different results in detection rate!

Both products are very good. You can't go wrong with either one. Try both products and see what suites your system best...

I can't speak for F-Secure, but CSAV is excellent. I'm partial to programs that are effective, but light on resources. I have NOD32 for that reason. If for some reason that NOD32 didn't work out, I would have chosen CSAV. Just my $0.02, for what it's worth (hopefully, at least two cents. ;D).
