After installing V4.0.437.0 on XP system, the computer does a continuous restart immediatly after displaying "loading personal setting". Required restoring the hard disk to resolve the problem. Any ideas?

Do you get a blue screen? Are you able to get into safe mode?

No blue screen just a restart, ie windows splash screen, Loading personal setting, Blank screen, windows splash sceen, etc.
Yes, I got to safe mode, but only fix I could affect was to restore the system from a backup.

In Windows XP go to the Control panel and double click on the System Icon then select Advanced Tab then the Setting button under the Startup and Recovery Section and un-check Automatic Startup. This will allow you to see the BSOD and the error message and stop the boot process.

I have been having a very similar problem for many months and Eset has never fixed this problem for me yet.

But if it is the same as mine you can un-check the Enable self-defense module under the Antivirus and antispyware section before your reboot and see if that helps.

Sounds like a Corrupt user profile, possibly from the AV software it self. Perhaps you can post your msconfig list of apps that run at startup and make sure there is no underline malware / other security products dooking it out.

The automatic restart box is unchecked.

From safe mode, go to start/programs/eset & uninstall Nod32. Does that fix it?

During the times of restart, does XP event viewer give an indication in the Application or System logs ?

I would like to step up to Version 4 which is what I was doing when the computer went into continuous restart. Version 3 is currently running, and I have considered uninstalling V3 and then trying to install V4, but I'm a little hesitant to go back into that quagmire.

Does the computer restart when you enter Safe Mode?

Nothing that is intuitively obvious to the casual observer.

Does it boot in normal mode when you uninstall it?

Attempts to uninstall (in safe mode) V4 using both JV16 & Control panel failed. At this point I restored the Disk image and resolved the problem of continuous restarts, however this is using version 3.

Did you ever get the Bootup BSOD issue resolved?

I never got a BSOD. Additionally, automatic restart was unchecked.

Try doing a complete uninstall of V3.. The installing V4.. I'd also do like the user above suggested, and try making a new user profile.
