Number of scanned items is double the number of manually scanned files

I scan a pdf document download from a site and a forced manual scan shows as number of scanned documents 2

why???

Because pdf files can be scanned internally, like with archives. The scanner doesn't tell you it's scanned 1 archive, but returns the number of scanned files within the archive.
